Here is the problem bringing him back….

If all you offer is a MiL contract there is no reason to sign with us UNLESS you give him a MLB accelerator that pays him a lot of money once he is brought up.

Doubtful that happens so what is more likely to happen is they will take a MiL contract somplace else who is more in need of pitching.

Even if we had the highest bid the bottmline is Boras knows Pelfrey will have a tough time cracking into the rotation of :
Santana
Dickey
Niese
Harvey
Gee/Wheeler

So Boras really has no reason to sign with the Mets unless we blow them away with an offer which for one I would not expect Sandy to do and two I agree with him on that.

The thing is…I havent personally seen Valdespin do anything that drastically different than any other kid in baseball..

to get rid of the Milledge Halo…he is going to have to learn English…give 100 interviews a day……getting a perm wouldnt hurt his case either…

In terms of attitude, Bryce Harper makes Jordany Valdespin look like Kevin Elster and yet I dont see the Nats throwing Bryce under the bus…

fact is…the mets would never have the stones to deal with a Bryce Harper…he would never have been drafted as a Met…as it is, I think RA’s statements may have earned him some points with us…but certainly not with the Wilpons….

I agree with you on Boras. He is not going to come back to Mets if he is low balled by them. Boras will try and show Pelfrey as a savior to a pitching staff and get him the most he can. Might have to wait till spring training to sign with a team. Hopefully Mets fans have seen the last of Pelfrey as their pitcher.

I really like Valdespin’s athleticism defensively in the outfield. The kid is close to being a natural. In the infield he doesn’t do as well. But the biggest thing for Spin to learn is to rid himself of the Milledge Halo. Maybe his time on the bench is helping him understand his future role, both as great athlete and as a team player. I too don’t think Spin sitting in the dugout will help him learn to hit offspeed pitches.

DaveSchneck — I don’t think Pelf in the bullpen is a good idea despite his ability to throw ground balls. He’s slow to the plate. He’s never really mastered the slide step to get faster to the plate in order to hold runners on base. If Pelf comes back, think Dan Warthen needs to work on Pelf’s delivery motion — varying it up and making it quicker.

Offer him a ML contract…let him work out of the pen to”limit” his work load and see him he could do it.

I don’t ever want to see him starting, but I believe that he might be good as a reliever. Of course, seeing how he tends to not handle the mentally stressful situations, he could completely crumble.

This could be a low risk, high reward type deal…and sadly with this FO, we need a few of these deals to work out.

The problem is, Pelf’s agent is Scot Boreass and who knows what he’s going to do…he’ll put his book on Pelf together and show that TJ was the best thing in the world for Pelf and now he’s going to be the next Kofax.

Why would Colorado, a team desperate for pitching, trade its best pitching prospect for a hitter with one year of control? I would be okay with trading DW but the match needs to be with a team like the A’s or Seattle. Also, if he leaves they need to deal him far away; we don’t need him coming in and beating up on the Mets for years to come.

Let’s trade Ike and Niese and retain Bay and Pelfrey. You know the left righty switch, This is a case where right is wrong. Another case is keep Wright and not restock the farm with good prospects and fill an immediate need at catcher or CF. Example : Pomerantz and Rosario for DW.

I’d like to see him come back. We know he has the potential to be a good number 3 or 4 and on some teams maybe a number 2. He showed many signs of improvement this year and his last start if I remember correctly was a good one. I’d bring him back on a minor league deal, see how he does in the minors and then bring him up as a number 5 or long arm in the bullpen.

Pleas put aside the emotions. Pelfrey will certsainly be non-tendered, because that makes business sense. Re-signing him needs to also be based on business sense. If someone offers him $4 mil plus,he’s gone. If nobody does, the Mts can re-sign him to an incentive-based deal and have another major league arm. Pelf in the pe is intriguing, and he couldn’t be much worse than half of the pitchers out there this year.

Me: Why has no one has questioned Collins on Valdespin being benched.

KB: What benching?

Me: Valdespin has started maybe 1 game in the last 3 weeks, A lot of fans want to see him play and not Torres or Bay.

KB: He hasn’t exactly drawn rave reviews from the staff/organization. He had a nice run as a PH , that’s about it.

So let me get this straight….Valdespin as an undisciplined RAW rookie hits more HR than Jason 18 million dollar Bay….

and he is not drawing “rave” reviews…but Fred Lewis, Andres Torres, and Jason Bay get more PT than Valdespin

Valdespin is 22….is set to make 500K if he makes the team next year…is HANDS DOWN the fastest player on the roster right now, can steal a base……and can cover the most ground in the OF…not to mention he can play 2B, LF, CF, RF…but he hasnt gotten any playing time in 3 weeks

can someone please explain to me WTF is going on here ????

I like Big Pelf and actually bought one of those t-shirts. What’s so bad about bringing him back on a minor league deal? It’s not like we’re stacked in the rotation and we could always use the depth. He should get same kind of deal Chris Young got who will probably not be back anyway.

i would rather go to the SF giants or another club with a superior infield defense…better pen…better pitching coach…laid back atmosphere…and increased chance for exposure…

he’s a FA coming off TJ surgery, who won’t be ready until May (at least), who knows the system and most likely can use this to propel himself to 3+ year contract if he shows he’s healed. sure, another team could scoop him up, but I doubt anyone else would give him a major league deal.

And, you have Santana’s and Gee’s shoulders potentially falling off, so it’s not like he may never see the starting rotation.
