That’s fine with me. If he can get starter money from some team, god bless him. He’s a platoon guy and the Mets shouldn’t pay any more than a platoon salary.

It’s possible, Mike, but I’m not sure. The Mets paid him $3.5 mil. Judging how good he’s been and add in the fact that he’s now used to NY a little bit, I would say $4 mil is what’s they’d pay. Do you think another team would offer him five mil?

I’m pretty sure with the dearth of starting pitching in the majors that Young will get an offer to start somewhere, like a Colorado, where even though he’d give up a ton of bombs with his flyball rate he’s still better than half their staff. He would be a nice guy to have as a spot starter/ long man ala Darren Oliver. I’d also take Rauch back but they may want to use that 3.5 to keep Hairston and fill some of that Pen from within and use as much money as they can to upgrade the offense.

I’m impressed with Rauch, he was starting to get eaten up by NYC with the Twitter stuff, but he managed to have the mental fortitude to turn it around…I like him too. It’s a shame but I think he’s priced himself out xtreem…

Yeah, he’s got seven losses, but he’s got 26 wins, saves and holds. So for a reliever, he’s 26-7. I’ll take it. Also, one of his losses was charged to him via an unearned run. So there’s that. Also, three of his home runs have come in his last three outings and so have five of his runs. He had an ERA under three up until last week. He’s definately been the best reliever this season.

Outside of the ugly 7 loss stat.

A WHIP under 1
An ERA around 3.50
Only 11 Walks to 40 Ks, a 3.64 Ratio

7 HRs in 56 innings isn’t amazing but it isn’t horrific for a reliever. the .208 opposing hitters average makes up for it. Righties are batting .172 against him. RISP: .174.

And his overall BA against has improved from .242 to .159 in the second half. Grand total of 2 ER allowed in July and August combined. Nice stats to look at, in my opinion.

Francisco was god awful, but I really don’t mind Rauch. I’d have gladly taken the reverse (Frank for 1, Rauch for two.)

Rauch isn’t as bad as you think he is.

Especially compared to Francisco. If anyone needs to be let go, it’s him. Especially since he costs more money. Rauch was only signed to this year anyway, so he’ll be gone for those who dislike him.

Drumming up fan interest could be real easy this season…The All Star Game will bring in a nice amount of revenue and the press around it would be doubled if the Mets had anyone not named Dickey really making a bid for the AS.

And of course, logically, contending in September = more fans coming out to ball games.

I would like Chris Young out of the bullpen for next year, not sure if he would do it. Without knowing anything about the budget i would say $3.5 Million would be good for one year, let Rauch go, keep Ramirez unless you use him as part of a deal, either way it’s the start of rebuilding the bullpen while your starters are Niese, Harvey, Santana and absolutely make an offer to Dickey, I would approach talks with a number of 3 years/36 million in my mind then hear their counter offer and go from there but the point is definitely work to include him in next year’s staff. I would include Gee in the rotation too but can keep him in mind in a deal as long as i’m not weakening his spot in the rotation. And that too depends on the development of Wheeler, Familia and Mejia. McHugh & Hefner are also in the mix.

I definitely would not be looking to move Niese at all. I’d resign Mike Pelfrey at the rest price for the purpose to showcase him for a trade but if he looked like a brand new man in ST and you never know than all the better because then you may decide to keep him and move somebody else (but i highly doubt that)

Mets definitely have a lot of chips to work with to start this offseason. You can combine some of these guys with positions players who i haven’t even mentioned yet.

You also could have taken 1/2 of that creativity and made a move to help the squad at the deadline this year. I highly doubt the course of Mets destiny would have been change if they made a move or two, or even signed a guy like Ben Sheets and who knows what else.
And if anything if something did happen maybe the fans interest would have risen + more ticket sales + more money + more excitement. But we’ll never know because these guys clearly dropped the ball.

Now let’s hear their excuse if they drop the ball for the 3rd straight off-season.

No, we are all good. I’m actually happy to not see young again. My comment was more about basically giving Young $350K by letting him start today. And good for him. I hope he enjoys it and has one stall at vacation. I know I would.

Not sure if you misinterpreted my statement or anything, but what I was saying is that likely we have seen the last of Young. He will probably ask for more money than we are willing to pay him.

But like I said, I won’t be getting all cracked up about it – he would likely be just depth for the 2013 season anyway.

I do not understand the line up Terry ran out there tonight.
Coming into this start, Young had 3 previous starts in the month of Sep where the offense gave him exactly a total of 4 runs. Tonight was his 4th Sep start and run support? Still sitting at 4 runs.

In a meaningless game in another meaningless Sep, in a losing season, I saw several Met fans saying tonight, ‘Who cares?’ I’m willing to bet Chris Young did……
