Maybe not better, but younger, and also, i looked up his 2008 season, we all saw how AWFUL he was right, but if you look up at his numbers, he was 2-6 3.34 while making $3.5 million.. Sounds AWFULLY familiar right??? Because it is, the guy you all praise and rave about JON RAUCH has a 3-7 record to go along with an 3.51 ERA and makes $3.5 million. go figure.. yet Rauch is this great guy sandy got yet he has similar #'s that schoenweis had in 2008.. but of course, Omar get ripped for that signing and alderson gets praised for rauch.. Double Standard at its best..

Well if Sandy ever gets the Mets there then we have a discussion on what to do, until then there is NO discussion because Sandy will not get this team to a place where we can discuss a pennant race collapse to begin with.

The arguments these people make to defend Sandy and CRY because we lost on the field is sickening and they are only lying to themselves trying to rationalize, years later, why we lost THE BIG PRIZE from 2006-2008

When Sandy gets this team in a position for such heart break - that would be PROGRESS! But it's not gonna happen so therefore he will NEVER be able to equal Omar Minaya. Never. Not with this organization.

This is a whole lot different then the Jose Reyes situation. I hope it doesn't turn out the same with getting nothing in return. Jose's demands were too high based on the injury risk factor involved. Add the fact that Ruben Tejada was in the wings and that is why the Mets were not going to get involved with a bidding war. They gambled and lost on the basis of the players edge in these situations.

This time will be different. Hopefully, Sandy A will be able to sit down and begin negotiations on giving Wright and Dickey the extensions and money they are asking for and do it within the next 30 days or so. The longer the brass waits the tougher it will be.

"Even Flows" first posting may be the most accurate in that if Sandy and Co feel they can't possibly meet the demands then he will indeed be a seller this winter. What would he want to get in return for these two players? The big money market teams will play hardball with Sandy hoping that they would have a chance to get these guys instead by the Free Agency route a la the Jose way.

The fallout from the loss of two guys who are such fan favorites would be enormous!

Hope it's not July 1977 all over again!

New York, New York....it's a helluva town!

Tell me, how emotional were you when you saw Philly win the World Series in '08? Stop with the 2006-08 runs. We had two runs that fell flat because of pitching, injuries and depth issues that should've been addressed from the get go. There is no excuse for back to back collapses, no matter how much you want to play it. What have we done since that moment in time? Two things: SINK and STINK! You saw how Philly retooled their roster and ascended themselves back into another winning season, despite things going wrong in the first half that reminded you of how we've played in recent years? You mean to tell me the Mets couldn't have done that and still prevent ourselves from being an afterthought? Please.

Please don't compare Omar and Sandy like that. Omar had some success here while Sandy will not. Remember those 3 runs from 2006-2008 and how emotionally involved you were following those PENNANT RACES?

No, YOU open your eyes and stop being so emotionally attached to these guys. This is why we've gotten nowhere. Have you been paying attention the last few years? Our situation is getting worse and worse.

We have NO outfield.
Our catching situation? Unsatisfactory.
Bullpen? A joke.

What if the Mets don't resign R.A.? Did you miss the part I wrote about him being put on the block with Wright at the Winter Meetings? I could care less about attendance, so don't throw that shit at me. This team needs a facelift, one that should've been done the last 3-4 years, but neither Omar or Sandy have gone fully with it, fooling fans about competing with "5 year plans" and getting somewhere in 2014. If the fans don't come out because of a guy who peaked 4 years ago is not back, so be it.

Follow up on my original thoughts, nothing has changed with the Mets financial or competitive situation to cause Sandy to imply one thing in August and another now - except that he is aware that David is indeed serrious about leaving.

That would make Sandy's remark as quoted by Rubin make sense. But it also implies it's the Jose Reyes situation all over again. I do not believe Sandy know something now that he didn't know in August. As I said, nothing has changed regarding the team, it's finances, it's play on the field - or David's own personal feelings.

What has me more concerned that what David said was what Alderson said:

"I think that you have to constantly assess where you are and where they might be and make the best possible judgment."

That sounds a lot different than what he said to season ticket holders in August:

"I fully expect that David Wright and R.A. Dickey will be here not only next year, but longer term. We’re going to deal with it up front while we have a little room to maneuver.”

A lot different, don't you think?
