Hi Watchman,

Two straight seasons in which a team that was playing beyond anyone’s expectations was not give an infusion of more support and instead the front office does everything it could to let the air out of the balloon. There would be disappointment for sure, a lot of arm chair criticism no doubt, but not total disgust had the organization made it’s best efforts and then we still collapsed. In 2007 and 2008 perhaps some wanted Omar out but there were no chants of “sell the team”.

No wonder R.A. said it was hard to swallow.
No wonder David is talking about wanting to play for a winner.

No wonder the Mets are giving away tickets as long as one shows up with his or her “can”.

Ding Ding Ding Ding…….Bingo! That was dead on. The FO had 2 tremendous home grown talents in Wright and Reyes, added a quality pitcher in Santana and still failed to build a supporting cast around them. Santana’s first few years with the Mets were nothing more than a series of wasted quality outings. Reyes is gone already and now it looks like Wright is perceived by the FO as being associated with losing. The organization is an embarrassment and shamefully incompetent!

Went to Rockies/Giants game Monday with a friend who was the Rockies PR guys high school baseball coach. Got to go on the field and hang around the cage during Rockies batting practice. I specifically asked the PR guy if the Rockies would be interested in trading for Wright after the season and he said “no, he makes too much money and we are happy with this kid Nelson” Of course he may not tell me if they were interested or not, but for what’s it’s worth, that’ what he said.

Good opposing views but for me the first thing I want to know is what team or teams would be interested in him. Once we know that then a more solid opinion can be formed. I just don’t know until the off season trade mill starts heating up.

Actually he is no closer to FA then as he is now considering his 2013 option year would not be traded with him. He was also injured and coming off a down year.

Also, I have yet to see even ONE creditable source that has the offer you suggest as an actual offer. All that was was some bloggers filling in the blanks.

Rox ‘s offer after DW’s injured and down year was Drew Pomerantz, Wil Rossario and Wiggy’s return. That will not be duplicated or topped after this year. DW is a year older and assuming option exercised but not extended a year closer to FA.

As much as I agree with you, I think you’re father is right. We have a woeful record when it comes to hanging on to our very best players. It’s not an Alderson thing, it’s always been a Mets thing. I appreciate the sincerity of your post.

Our front office created the situation to which having a David Wright is no longer advantageous to either us or our third baseman.

It didn’t have to be this way, unless that was the plan all along.

If the Mets keep getting a good player and trading them we will never have a good team. We need to keep those who have done good and also get new ones to replace those who don’t!!!!

Alex he has much more trade value this year as opposed to last year. Not sure why that is hard to understand. So if the Mets plan is to trade him then waiting was actually the right move.

I want the Mets to do what is best for the Mets. If that is to sign Wright long-term so be it, if it is to trade him so be it, if it is to ride out his contract and then decide so be it.
