He was on a strict 75-80 pitch count, so the innings count didn’t really matter in the final analysis.

He left after five innings having thrown 81 pitches, 46 for strikes, and walking four batters in. As Connor pointed out in his recap, Wheeler struggled with his command. So the fact that he could get in five and thereby pick up a win to even his Triple-A W-L record at 2-2 at the very end of his season, is nice after a long year of hard work.

While he only gave up 2 hits one being a solo HR he was mostly wild all night with his fastball. In the top of the 6th Backman pinch hit for Wheeler because the Bisons had the bases loaded with 1 out and had a chance to break the game open. They ended up scoring 4 runs that inning and held on for the win.

You mean to tell me that not letting him pitch 6 innings and 150 for the year, somehow protects his future career? I’m sure 1 more inning would have destroyed him LOL. I can’t help but think that the BB gods have lost their minds!
