Both Bobby and Keith have outsized egos. It makes them interesting at times but both share a short shelf life, as these comments by some readers tell us. Some Mets fans like bold, hard nosed statements, while others favor more subtle views of the game. Guess where Bobby and Keith are!!!

Bobby O is usually correct and on the money when he speaks. So he misses a couple numbers here and there...BIG DEAL!

I know that's heresy in this age of numbers first/reality second but so what? That's like getting bent out of shape because the hit was that won the world series was categorized as a line drive when in fact it was a bloop.

It's about winning and not sweating these stupid details. Ruben is a winning ballplayer. Hopefully the powers that be after this current front office (cuz they sure are not going to do it) will build a good enough team that can go to the post season despite the talents of a Ruben Tejada, despite the talents of a Rafael Santana, despite the lack of power from a Rey Ordonez, and despite the lack of offense of a Bud Harrelson - get my point?

And in this age of relying TOO much on numbers instead of building the best competitive team you possibly can - guys like Ordonez, Harrelson, and Santana would have been CRUCIFIED and torn to shreds by saber geeks who know NOTHING about baseball.

And Ruben is still learning and already is a better hitter than the 3 I mentioned.

Joe, Bobby watches the games...with his eyes. Stop watching with your calculator. And your facts.

Seriously, I like when Bobby O talks pitching. He is really good at that. He's informative and expresses himself well for lay people. But, he has a limited scope. He'll start talking about hitting and at times will be the polar opposite of what Keith is saying...actually, what Keith is demonstrating.

If there’s a game winning run on second and I need a base hit, I want Murphy, Wright, or Tejada up."

and that is why the mets have a losing record and always fail to come trough in the clutch...

I get what ojeda was saying, while he was wrong, he probably just said it after what he's watched w/o looking at the number, funny, tejada probably has come trough more for us this year than expected. the kid would've been just fine at 2B imho..

Out of those 3 I'd want Wright last. I'd rather have Tejada first to be honest. You pretty much know he's going to make contact. Murphy is hit or miss, he was much better in the clutch last year. This year he hasn't been that good at all. He was 0 for his first 10 getting a runner home from 3rd and less than 2 out. last year he was money in that spot. The best Met in those spots in the 40 plus years I've been watching the team was Edgardo Alfonzo. That's why I have my screen name.

I know what you mean Longtime but to be fair he said being 6 games over at the break wasn't great, he didn't say it was bad. He mentioned games that were blown because of shoddy defense, mental mistakes and a lousy bullpen. I think the exact words were being 6 games over 500 was no big accomplishment considering the great pitching they were getting. But Bobby O does come up with some head scratching comments. He doesn't do his homework.

I'm not convinced Bobby Ojeda means well. I think his analysis/hyperbole is all about feeding his ego and is why he should be replaced with someone who provides good analysis, opinion and criticism without repeatedly leaking himself into it. He would be a good fit on the MLB Network or broadcasting national games on Fox or ESPN rather than day after day for local team, ad nauseam, pre and post game.

He does a lot of those things - saying things that don't add up, making things up, contradicting himself, anything to heighten the drama whether it makes sense or not. You can be darn sure had Tejada made an out instead of game-winning hit, he'd be bashing him for not swinging at the cookie first pitch strike rather than praising him post game for laying off that very pitch.

Lets, see....Here's A Few Of Many

Yesterday he claimed Tejada makes a great play every night.

And that being 6 games over .500 at the break was terrible.

Today he claimed Tejada was not at all bothered by two episodes of intentional walks of ahead of him, even though we soon hear David Wright made a point to say a few encouraging words to Tejada to diffuse any fallout after the second intentional walk occurred.

On Sept 15th, Ojeda claimed Ike Davis missed all of 2011.

On Sept 14th, he twice claimed Murphy had surgery on both knees even though Murphy's had none.

On August 22nd he said all those Mets two out hits in the first half were the result of pitcher failure.

On August 21st he said Murphy had surgery on both knees even though that's not true.

On August 20th he said Santana's back could be hurting because he's dehydrated (as if that's a viable medical statement for back pain, let alone not knowing when Santana's back started hurting - which was at least 4 days before Ojeda's comment. You'd think Santana was stranded on a desert island or the U.S. ran out of water.

And to make matters worse, in same analysis, Ojeda said it could be from the plane ride back to Citi Field even though the Post Game Show had just aired comments of Johan saying his back was hurting during the road trip, something that was already publicly known known to everyone but Ojeda who had second chance to listen to the facts but chose not to, busy yet again making things up, his own alternate reality.

I seem to recall that Tejada had quite a few 2-strike hits earlier in the season. The stats given really are meaningless without context. Tell me how Tejada's .218 with 2 strikes compares to the rest of the league and the best hitters and I'll make up my mind whether he's a good 2-strike hitter. For all I know, the league average with 2 strikes is .160, which would make him better than average in those counts.

If there's a game winning run on second and I need a base hit, I want Murphy, Wright, or Tejada up. Maybe those splits you put up don't show it, but he seems to come through more often then others do. Maybe those stats you showed are still better then average for this team? Maybe that's why it seems that he has done better then he actually has. Point is, are people really going to nitpick every last thing associated with this team to the point where the post game commentator is getting read the riot act? Bobby O...keep it up!!!

Yeah - we should extend Bobby O some poetic license given the fact that he's basically analyzed every game of this very grueling season. And, yeah, he gets a bit over the top but you can't fault the man for his enthusiasm and he means well... :)
