I loved watching Millan and his choked up batting stance just punch hits wherever the hole was.
Too bad about the injury but fights have consequences, but thanks for the memories. :)

Stone was awesome in 1973. He is probably the biggest piece of "What woulda happened if"??? in Mets history. What woulda happened if Yogi had started him in game 6???? instead of going with Seaver on short rest.

Stone pitches great and Mets win the World Series?? or Stone pitches poorly, Mets lose game six but win the series in 7 when Seaver pitches lights out in game 7???

Barry - I also loved Felix Milian. I'm not sure but I think in 1973 he set the team record for most hits in a season. He was a great glove man and a very tough out. Thanks for this piece down memory lane!!!

Hi Barry,

Again, thanks for the great stroll down memory lane.

I remember that spring training reading an article in which (I think) Seaver and some others were acknowledging the strange feeling of no longer playing beside so many of their teammates from the '69 the past two seasons. Besides Boswell, Gentry and Friscella, over the winter they also parted with Agee. The year before that we said goodbye to Shamsky, Clendennon, Ryan, Taylor and Weis and, of course, lost Gil Hodges. Ron Swoboda was already wearing pinstripes after a short stint in Montreal.

I think it was at that time when there were so many new faces at Al Lang Field is when the reality of losing so many teammates and friends those past two seasons really hit Seaver and others.
