It has been great to see Ike return to form. I do not think that letting Ike and the Mets suffer through so many bad at bats in April and May helped anyone. Many a rally was killed by the easy outs of Bay and Davis. Ike is likely to remain a streaky hitter. He will need a right handed back up.

My bad on the BA. When I checked it had Laroche at .255. I thought that was close enough to use as a comparison in order to illustrate Ike’s value as a very young power hitter.

This! Sometimes I think people on this site are off their rocker with this whole passive walk approach, especially for middle of the order thumpers like Ike Davis. Bayonne called it a sick world but what he meant was a sick baseball mentality.

Met fans were ready to send Ike to Siberia following his first half struggles. I have watched baseball for 50 years and Ike Davis looked as lost at the plate as any hitter I have ever seen before. He had no balance at all. He was hesitant at times, over anxious at other times and you could see he had no confidence at all. He was in fact….defeated as he stepped into the batter’s box. It is hard to understand that with all the video available that a solution wasn’t found but I believe that Ike was not over the effects of the Valley Fever that he contacted. His swing was initially lethargic and then of course there was him missing almost all of last season.

All things considered the brass showed lots of patience by not sending him down to Buffalo as they did with Lucas Duda but then again Ike is a good defensive glove at first base.

Davis will end up having great power numbers despite being invisible for half a season. The batting average will probably be in the .240 range if he stays swinging the bat well and we should look forward to an awesome year from him in 2013 .

The pieces will fit better by next year and the young arms have already shown what the future is looking like….

100 productive swings would be better. Why go for walks with a player who doesn’t run that well, but can put the ball in the seats with a well timed SWING! Swing, it’s how rbi’s are made. I would rather have Ike driving in runs than looking for the bottom of this weak lineup to drive him in.

LaRoche’s .260 BA is “similar” to Davis’ .223? As for Murph and Tejada being “productive”…really? a combined 5 HRs, 90 runs scored, 74 RBIs, neither has a slugging % of .400, and their OPS are both below .720. Let’s not confuse a decent BA and OBP for being productive when all of their other numbers are pretty poor.

Its a sick world because of the things people do like murder, molestation, rape, hatw crimes etc…..NOT necause somebody wants Ike on base more.

It’s a sick world the first thing someone wants from an Ike Davis is 100 walks. Or to even consider it. If the guy hits 35 HRs and drives in 100 RBIs and it hitting than whatever the by-product of his talent winds up being is good be it 50 or 100 BBs.

That’s the LEAST thing we should care about if this guy is to be the Mets firstbaseman of the future. I want him hitting HRs and driving in runs, if that doesn’t happen he can walk 200 times, clog up the bases and get sent down to the minors for all i care.

People are nuts now. The blur between fantasy and real baseball is getting thicker

Ike has come a long way. It’s good to have him back, but I’ll settle for a little less chaos and more a full season of what he does best — bashing the ball.

It’s kinda funny how the opinion of fans and writers change like the weather. I also believe it is notable that Ike leads all NL 1st basemen with 25 Hr’s. Larouche is second with 23 and has a similar BA with a better OBP. Ike, Murph, Tejada, and Wright. Not many teams can boast an infield as productive. I really can’t imagine if Flores can come along as an outfielder and then a couple pieces here and there and we will have ourselves a Team.
