Sweet Music! Dickey Is First To 18 Wins!
SWEET MUSIC!
R.A. Dickey’s magical season continued today in St. Louis where he earned his Major League leading 18th win of the season as he keeps on marching toward the 2012 National League Cy Young Award.
Dickey (18-4) struck out five and walked one while becoming the first Mets pitcher in 22 years to win 18 games, as the Mets defeated the Cards 6-2 to avoid the sweep.
Dickey becomes the first Mets pitcher to reach 18 wins since Frank Viola (20-12) and Dwight Gooden (19-7) both accomplished the feat in 1990.
He has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in four successive starts.
Eleven of Dickey’s eighteen wins came after a loss, tops in the majors!
R.A. Dickey’s 2.64 ERA is the second best mark in the NL!
The Mets knuckleballer has pitched seven innings or more and allowed one or fewer runs 16 times this season, tops in the NL!
Dickey also leads the NL with five complete games. Those are the most in a single season by a Mets pitcher since 1993, when Dwight Gooden tossed seven.
What else can you say???

Yeah!!!!!!! If Dickey don’t win the Cy Young, Congress will have to launch an investigation! lol
Was just listening to the Mets network SNY and can you believe they were saying that Cueto, Chapman and Kershaw still rate better than Dickey in their eyes?????
Would something like that ever be said on YES Network if they were in same situation? I strongly doubt it.
So if the Mets network feels that way imagine all the other voters in the other NL markets.
Who is “They”? Who said it?
Well to be honest if you listened to the Yes Network you wouldn’t even know there are other baseball teams other than the guys they played that day!
RA is having an unreal season. I hope and pray I’m wrong, but I just feel like he’ll get screwed out of the CY…Just like the All-Star game start….
The other pitchers also have multiple pitches in their arsenal. Dickey dominates with 1 pitch. The batters know its coming too…other pitchers have the luxury of the batter needing to either guess or just react. With Dickey, they just can’t hit him. It’s like Mariano’s cutter.
You do not need an award to measure a man. RA Dickey is larger than the game. R.A. has reached the pinnacle of success which is much more than wins and losses.
A Mets no-hitter plus a 20 win season from two different Mets pitchers all in the same season? Now that’s what I call AMAZIN! Let’s hope it happens!
LOL a fighting to say out of the cellar a week ago…that IS amazing!
They had better lock Dickey up for the rest of his career cause if they don’t they might as well move to Los Angeles like the Dodgers did!
“What else can you say???”
How about congrats Mr. R.A. “2012 Cy Young Winner” Dickey?
“What else can you say???”
In 2013 you can say this thanks to Alderson.
“There goes my hero, watch him as he goes.”
Well I say get us a RH Power Hitting OFer…But thats just me!
The Reds have a consistent offense, so I’m certain Kung-Fu Cueto would not have as many wins if he were a Met. Using team success as a measure for the Cy Young is nuts because the guy who is part of the winning team can get MVP.
Don’t even get me started on a Reliever being eligible for a Cy Young. Closers become closers when they don’t have the make-up to be starters, which is the first category teams look at for most pitching prospects.
Dickey rocks and deserves top honors for winning BIG for a losing team.
R. A. Dickey what a year!!! He was cheated in the all-star game for not getting to start how can he be cheated again? please start using some sense and sign this man our pitching sucks enough at least have one bright spot for next year?
