Matt; This is no criticism of you since I had an opportun ity to ask a question: I wish I submitted this question:

Some sportwriters and bloggers said ownsership quit on the Mets by not making a deal at the trade deadline that is being “buyers”. The Mets were still in 2nd place with road series at Atanta and Washington right after ASB . The season was on the line then. I would have liked Rubin’s response : That is if he felt ownership quit on the team.

Just finished the full hour show. Enjoyed both the minor league updates and analysis from Pete Shapiro, as well as the Adam Rubin interview. Well, as much as I could enjoy Rubin since I find him pretty thin skinned and at times snarky, which he describes as ‘blunt’. Can’t disagree though that his overall Mets coverage is pretty thorough and all encompassing.

Just listened to tonight’s show that was on earlier. Was interested in what Rubin had to say.

Yup…..Rubin confirming what I’ve been saying all along. Ownership not spending b/c they don”t have deep pockets, likely not spending this off season, will probably spend some next off season when money comes off the books. Also won’t really invest in the team until revenues come up, which is a catch 22 b/c revenues will not likely come up until you field a contending team. He referenced the new Dodger ownership investing money when they came in, which in turn will energize the fan base and should result in higher revenues. Said this ownership is not in that position to do so.

I certainly don’t like it, but I get it. Wish is why I would have liked a change in ownership – one who did have a bit deeper pockets.

if it helps, Raffy Santana’s best year with the mets (his first) he put up an OPS+ of 97.

I don’t remember how they calculate it, but pretty sure it is set where 100 is either average, or (more likely) “replacement level”.

Just want to take a moment to say nice job by Matthew Falkenbury with his interview with Adam Rubin. He knew what he wanted to ask posed his questions and kept it moving. Though hanging up on Pete Matthew? SMH

Nice job Pete as well on the Mets Minors playoff coverage and very good analysis on the last question regarding the difference between the upper and lower part of the minors.

I thought Adam Rubin’s most interesting comment was about teams that have “deep pockets” and are able to buy players that are needed to be competitive and it is clear the Wilpons do not have deep pockets, therefore folks this may be the best it gets-kind of frightening ain’t it?

Satish, I got a question for Adam Rubin.

Even if their were zero financial constraints and he had a $125 million payroll budget, wouldn’t he still pass on giving Wright a $120 million dollar deal because it’s against his philosophy and has nothing to do with restraints?

Here’s a question for you.

If Sandy Alderson only has $15 million to spend, and most of it will go to raises, and he is unwilling to move any top prospects, how is he going to make the wholesale changes via trades that he promised? Is it just another of many broken promises?

I like Adam Rubin. I didn’t know you had to like or dislike certain statistics to enjoy reading a beat writer. Rubin actually responds to a lot of fan questions, he’s very approachable.

How Omar said(and why would he possibly lie about it) that Rubin was trying to get hired by the Mets in a player development position. That was the problem! Rubin had some balls. Angle for a job by the same team your supposedly covering honestly about. And I like him, but seriously, let’s not make him out as an angel who was trying to protect the minor leaguers.

What was the issue with omar??? That he reported how bernazzard was being an a**hole??? How he was mistreating minor league players and abusing his authority of power? You don’t like him because of what i said, has nothing to do with him being snarky, and if you think he’s been fair on SA then you’re mistaken. he’s probably one of the few who has put this FO on blast for the shitty job they’re done. Actually I don’t really care for him him because of how snarky he is, how he seems to clickmonger, and the issue with Omar and the Mets. He has actually for the most part covered Alderson very fairly. I guess that’s because he isn’t pinning for a job.

Good pickup.. A lot of mets fans (Sabergooners and Slurpers mostly) don’t like adam rubin, however, he’s one if not the only beat writer out there who tells it like it is. He’s a guy that’s up front and it’s not afraid to ask the question other media members don’t. As painful as it is, he portraits things how they are. the guy imo is the best mets writer out there because of his sincerity and honesty. Good job guys, looking forward to the transcrip of what he’ll say..
