The Mets performance at Citifield in the second half of this season is an insult to Mets fans. The team and management have been lackluster, boring and just plain dumb. No imagination to create any sense of entertainment or to create a spoiler role to bring some excitement and woefully unable to even raise hope for next season. A profoundly pathetic and embarrassing demonstration of inept leadership. It is time for Mets fans to find a way to show their disgust with most of the Mets ownership, management and those players who have been going through the motions.

Satsh, you said in your article “it was just a bad display of Mets baseball.” That says it all but I am confused. What did you compare it too? When was the last time we saw “good” Mets baseball? It’s ALL BAD, day after day, game after game, season after season!

How things change in baseball no? The A’s were an afterthought while the mets were on fire… Now the conversation switch back to the A’s. yet, most of the people who are now riding the bandwagon get offended when they get called moneyballers or sabergooooooners…. Go figure.

Should have read this first. Good job explaining it much briefer than I. OBP can no longer be a “moneyball” tool because EVERY GM is looking at OBP as one of the more important stats. Just listening to the different GM’s on MLBN radio will tell you that.

So perhaps now defensive players that can still hit their weight are considered the undervalued player with guys like Nelson Cruiz or even our own Lucas Duda losing value.

Alex my friend you are showing that you have no idea what moneyball actually means. It is just looking for value where others aren’t looking. In other words, doing what a GM should be doing. Unfortunately teams that play “moneyball” are teams that do not have the finances to combine playing moneyball with regular moves as well. My hopes are that the Mets will not be a team in financial turmoil in the future and can use both strategies to their fullest.

So what did the A’s look for this time? Hard to tell for sure but their defense is very good, their speed is above average, their walks are 4th in the league. So it’s possible that they believed that quick guys with a little pop were undervalued this year. Guys like Reddick, Gomes, Smith, Inge, Crisp… no true power hitter in the bunch but lots of guys in that 10-18 range.

You really have no clue what Moneyball was about. It’s about finding undervalued skill. At the time for the book, OPS was the undervalued skill. That focus has shifted to speed and to defense, and will continue to shift as those particular skills are paid.

And what did I say when the Mets were 47-38? Easy enough to look up here but I’ll make it simple for you. It was along the lines of ‘I don’t know how this season will play out but I’m enjoying the heck out of what’s happening right now’.

I enjoy baseball and I love the NY Mets. I can’t waste energy being as angry as some of you apparently are.

BP full of arms and TC brings FF into a losing game? Don’t get it. He usually never pitches well in that situation.

Once again, most of the bats failed to show up – especially after 1-4 in the order.
Hairston though gave it his best effort though as a PH.

Well guys, be positive. we lost one game last night due to poor offense, and once again the bullpen not holding the opponnent to a single run deficit. however, SA has a plan, we suck right now but that’s a good thing, because that means we can provide him and depodesta with a better draft pick position next year. We are going in the right direction, and i am seeing the light, i am sure this offseason won’t be great due to the owners financial problems, but SA will have a good day and he’ll do what’s nessesary to put us in a position to win championships and be contender for years to come. one more year and we’re done with bay’s and santana’s contract and we will be able to spend money again, in the meantime, just hang tight guys, we’ll be fine in 2014

The Mets hitters are a bunch of pathetic, spineless, gutless losers who obviously don’t want to play and wish the season were over. I’m embarrassed to be a Mets fan. I do think they will lose 90 games. They can’t find their way out of a paper bag. R.A. Dickey has three more starts to win 20 games. I hope he can get there.

I agree Sarge about Dickey…the same could be said for all the guys taking a turn in the rotation…What must it be like to know you have to be nearly perfect every start or you and the team are getting the loss.
I think if the Mets reach 70 wins..it will be a miracle. I feel like i’m stuck in a bad nightmare…I use to try and rationalize to myself patience…there’s young talent developing in the pipeline. I am getting more angry by the day however, because the light at the end of the tunnel seems to get that much further away the more we row towards it. Just wait until these bad contracts expire…hogwash. This FO and Ownership are taking this proud franchise back to the days of the DeRoulet family. Wait till Citi has about 800 or 900 people in the stands for their final games at home…The excuse will then turn too “we lost more than we thought we would, we couldn’t afford David and RA”…
