It’s nice that you recognize the “reality” Mary!

The 2012 Mets were not a playoff team despite their good first half. Regardless of our own players, The Nationals, Braves, Phillies and Marlins all appeared to be much stronger than we were. As it turns out the Phillies and Marlins had horrible seasons themselves. I for one am glad to see that we have rebounded from the 6 weeks of terrible play following the break. I am also glad that because we are not playoff bound that our future young prospects are getting their feet wet and showing us where our future lies.

Baseball has always been about pitching and once again the organization is in the process of building what should be a formidable starting pitching corp. That is the answer and the solution we need to once again be a top flight team. The brass had a plan and they have stuck to it. we as fans just need to wait just a bit longer….2013 will be the start of another strong era of dominant Met pitching!

as soon as his price is ML minimum or a MiL invite, then yes, plenty of teams will take a look to see if a new environment can revitalize him. Probably not, but like you say, he is still only 34 or so. Not young by BB standards, but not totally over the hill!

you have it backwards. The Marlins have a much higher payroll (118mill vs. 93 mill) according to USA today. And they actually were buyers early in July, trading for Carlos Lee.

it was not until late in the month when they were tanking that they sold off some parts, though it would not surprise me if Hanley being traded was more “personal”, not just financial or to rebuild.

No he isn’t Agon or Chipper Jones…

Keith Hernandez was no Daryl Strawberry
And Ray Knight was no AGon, Chipper Jones or even a David Wright!

But we still needed them to win a WS!

I get where some are disappointed after having such lofty goals for DW.
And I get that what he is likely to make in an extention may seem more then somemother better players are getting on deals they signed years ago…

But the bottom line is if we have as many BAD players as some suggest the last thing this team can reall afford to lose is one of the BEST on the team!

Clutch/Not Clutch Agon/Not Agon really doesn’t matter!

Not every player on your team is going to be a hall of famer…
But even having a Hall of Famer is not enough if you can’t keep good players to play around them!

The Red Sox are looking for a right handed power hitting outfielder… Hahaha. How strange would that be if Bay ended up back with Boston, playing LF at a discount.
Don’t feel bad for Bay. He is still young and I get the sense that many times would be happy to give him a shot.

Can Wright do what AGON and Chipper did Sunday? I don’t think so. I am afraid he is not of the same ilk. Look Ike is adequate protection. Wright was hot when he had way less protection. We can keep Wright for nostalgia purposes. I did not do reseach but I bet Wright’s BABIP has nosedived. He is making contact but they are harmless ground balls with some doubles to right field. Bottom line Wright is no AGON or ChipperJones. Defense is a different story as he is a gold glover.

Stick. I don’t care for the Phils either but the ump was in the pocket of the Braves in the bottom of the ninth. I saw it and Paplebon had Bourne struck out and Prado too. It is bad when MLB games are not determined by the players but by umpires that SUCK, INCOMPETENT, OR GET PAID OFF. MLB umpiring is ruining the game. When he tried to get a fastball by Chipper Jones, he had no choice because he was not getting any calls on good pitches that were clearly strikes. Yeah I am not a Philly fan but I don’t like to see a team cheated by corrupt umpiring. MLB protects them and it is ruining the game.

Just hope he gets another shot somewhere that might help him have some success.

He sure has worked hard enough to earn it…Just can’t catch a break or hit a baseball with any regularity.

Metsie — I feel badly for Jason Bay too. The guy gave us his all. Too bad it didn’t result in more success. When the future plays out, I doubt the decisions that are made will be to explicitly help Jason. If they do wind up with Jason benefiting, it will simply be fortuitous.

Bringing in “star” players w/o a certain amount of chemistry in dugout, which starts with Ozzie, is one thing I think Marlins didn’t consider since they went and signed Jose w/o Hanley being informed, then told to move to 3B plus Sanchez just losing his way, a la Bay, at 1B a position that he was counted on to provide power and defense.

The fact that this stadium plays big means that you bring in fast, athletic players not necessarily power hitters because even with Stanton, Sanchez, Ramirez and then Lee they could not score, 14 shut outs so far!

Glad that Mets are once again playing great against he NL East as they did early in season.

Goal is to reach .500 at least.

Saw in local paper that Mets were 67-69 on this date last year so I hope we keep up the recent surge and finish strong to have something good to build on next year.

Why not exchange Bay for Zambrano? Just kidding his mental state fluctuates and I can see him getting into it with TC.

The marlins payroll is lower than the mets and they gave up in July to get better next year. It’s called selling high. This management doesn’t seem to understand that… We strive for third place

All Joking aside it’s pretty clear why they have always faltered last half of the season…

And it goes all the way back to 2006-2008 (2009 & 2010 being Injury plagued)

This team has been good but JUST good enough to compete.
But it required fighting every step of the way it never had the easy road to travel.

And as a result they fought all season and ran out of gas at the end.

2006-2008 if they had just one better pitcher a true ace type, they wouldn’t have choked.

And if they had one more this year and last we might not have waved the white flag in July either!

Upon considering the late season failure of the Mets, I tried to figure out what was the common element in our recent year’s September swoons. We Mets fans glory in assigning blame. I’ve hit upon it. Let’s blame it on Jose Reyes. Yes the same Jose Reyes we love as a player!!! Today he had 4 LOB. LOL.

P.S.: Only kidding but why are the Marlins with Jose taking a nosedive? Maybe he’s not CLUTCH. lol.

Glad for Bay, maybe the pressure is off now. Tommy Agee had this kind of year the first year he was here in 1968. It did not help that Bob Gibson hit him in the head in Spring training, I believe of that year.
