The funny thing is Des is the guy idolizes Jose Reyes who was the biggest gagger in big spots on the team. He was much worse than Wright in pressure spots it's not even worth discussing. And that's not even mentioning his no show Septembers in 07 and 08. Ryes got the 1st walkoff hit of his career this year. A little bloop that was misplayed. Hey but David Wright is unclutch.

By the way, you'd benefit by using a spell checker.

Finally, when most people speak of a team leader, they don't mean the statistical leader. A few of the posts here seem to confuse the two.

Old prejudices die hard, don't they Alex. I've asked you at least a dozen times over the past year or two to define UNCLUTCH. You haven't because you can't. Instead you repeat your mindless prejudices. So Alex what is UNCLUTCH. Put it in terms so that we can apply it to current and future performances. Don't do some data mining and tell us it's when he failed in the past.

Alex can't distinguish between random failure to perform on one hand, and some limiting capacity -- mental or physical -- which makes it impossible to perform. I've explained the difference in the past to you, but for some reason you remain unconvinced.

I think I'm not the one who is ignorant but perhaps we just place different values on types of behavior. As a point of fact, I was responding to another post which called out for praise Keith and Gary. They were cited in another post, so perhaps you want to go there.

There isn't a fact you mentioned that isn't common knowledge for a baseball fan. I stand by my comments. When a guy immediately leaves the locker room after a game and leaves it up to Wright, LoDuca and Wags to answer for the team, he's NOT a leader. He said he wanted to get home to help his wife with a baby. He was making north of $16 Million, as I remember. He could have employed some family help for a few hours a day. Defensively Delgado was a The Statue of LIberty who played first base. He didn't move his butt to dive to make a catch when he was mad at Willie. Yet he took his big bucks. Shameful. Let's also remember that Willie wanted to take him out in the ninth inning and put someone else in for defensive improvement. As for Carlos Beltran, I've got the utmost respect, but he was NOT a leader in the clubhouse. He was very quiet and often didn't participate in the clubhouse antics. He was a great player as I've said, but more than one great player in the game wasn't a leader. Check out the Phillies of the last 20 years for a couple of terrific players who would never qualify as leaders.

If trading that 3B plugs 2-3 other holes...and they can move Murph to 3B...or Flores to 3B....

I make that move in a heartbeat...

If you can get a legit SS...move Tejada to 2B...you have ALREADY improved your chances of winning by improving your up-the-middle defense...

moving Murph to 3B keeps a decent bat in the lineup...yes Murph is a decent bat...

I would trade Wright / Flores / and a couple of filler prospects for a TOP SS prospect...

Tejada's range is perfect for a 2B...his preparation is what gets him over at SS...Tejada is eons better than Murph defensively at 2B...and Tejada at 2B will allow Ike to play closer to the line...which affects pitch selection against LH hitters...defensive limitations play a HUGE part in a pitchers game plan...the mets need a SS who can allow Tejada to move to 2B again...Flores doesnt have the range and Valdespin has hands of stone...

a potential lineup 1-6 with Wright playing RF could look like

1 - Valdespin/Kirk - CF ( 500K )
2 - Tejada - 2B ( 500 K )
3 - Duda - LF ( 500 K )
4 - Ike - 1B ( 500 K )
5 - Wright - RF ( 15 mil )
6 - Murphy - 3B ( 500 K )
7 - SS
8 - Catcher

wait a minute...

A HR in the top of the 1st technically puts ur team on top....

from innings 1-6, Wright has 19...
from innings 7-9 Wright has 2

Nice try...

hey listen, I hate bashing Wright cuz he is a nice guy and a great player...but he is a COMPLIMENTARY PLAYER who has been shoved down our throats for reasons OTHER THAN HIS PRODUCTION...

everyone brings up his 2008 numbers...

and yet COMPLETELY forget that Delgado and Beltran were slamming the ball left and right

Beltran hit .344 with 6 HR and 20 RBI
Delgado hit .340 with 8 HR and 22 RBI

but according to Timmy from Mineola...David was carrying the club...and its funny how everyone conviently forgets how clutch DANIEL MURPHY was that year...

its funny how everyone forgets last year the cubs WALKING DUDA to load the bases and get to WRIGHT with less than 2 outs....AMAZING...Can you imagine someone walking a rookie hitting .274 to get to Barry Bonds or Albert Pujols or A-Rod?

Albeit...He has looked more comfortable ( at least in the 1st half ) this year...at the end of the day if David Wright looked like Jose Reyes and was from San Pedro de Macoris...he would be gone by now...THIS is what ticks off alot of people...the latinos who remember Roberto Clemente getting thrown under the bus by the media in the 60's have to see the same crap all over again with the Beltrans and Reyes of today...

Damaja,

Exactly.....Of course you wont here about it, but you'll here how courageous Wright was because he spoke to the media after a loss...As if that takes courage, players dont like talking to the media because it serves no purpose but give members of media ammo to put there own slant on a story.

What I have come to notice is players who avoid the media after losses are the ones whom take losses the hardest. This goes back to little league after losing if you really care you are so upset you dont wanna talk to anyone. Your parents have to bribe you with fastfood ice cream just to cheer you up.

LMAO

Its almost common practice that any time a player in baseball has a baby...he takes off a couple of days to spend with the wife and newborn...

also when a kid gets really sick, ala Angel Pagan's daughter

only on rare occasions do players skip out....Carlos Beltran's wife lost her baby during the NLCS...no one knew about it til next year...he intentionally kept it from the press b/c he did not want it to be a distraction...

but yeah...he was never enough for this crowd in NYC...

Not only should Wright be named Captain, but I recommend he should be named General instead. A 5 Star general to match his uni number.

As General, Wright's first order of business would be to burn the bullpen by dropping naplam on it.

Second, he should deploy kamikaze bombers to attack the Mets front office, bring as many of them down as possible, but try to capture Alderson alive for water boarding and other useful techniques.

Finally, he should stage a coup and lead a military overthrow of the ownership and declare Marshall law.

So no, don't make Wright captain, make him a general.

At ease, men.

Its just to say that when its other players that dont fit the narrative, it gets ignored...

Welcome to wrightville.. Where legion of his fans praise him and only him whenever he does soemthing while completely ignoring what other players have done or when they do the same...

Example: Somehow the mets never won anything with reyes and beltran, they're both losers, good riddance. but, since the conversation has shifted to maybe the dept of the golden boy:
He's a winner (mets haven't won with him either), He's a captain (of a sinking ship), He's a leader (maybe in OBP and BA) and the mets (even though they had no money) HAVE TO SIGN HIM (Disregarding his decline) ohh, he's also good looking.

Yes, if thats the case...then luis castillo was a leader in 2010...he was the one who mentored Tejada at 2B even when Tejada was taking away PT from him...

Tejada credited him with using pitch selection, location and batter tendency to make up for less than blazing speed...

Also, Lucas Duda, Angel Pagan Justin Turner, Daniel Murphy all were singing Carlos Beltran's praises in terms of leadership in 2010-2011....

Also Tejada, Murphy and Turner all credited Jose Reyes with helping them become better fielders...

this is NOT to say that Wright has not stepped up in any way...Im sure he has...Its just to say that when its other players that dont fit the narrative, it gets ignored...

You were the one that brought up the scenario with 1st and 2nd.

Feel free to pick apart everything about DW - still hitting .314 w/RISP this year, bottom line.

I'll repeat myself, I'll take RA Dickey's opinion of DW any day over someone that hates him, just because he's DW.
