The New York Mets have announced today that Wilmer Flores has won the Sterling Organizational Player of the Year Award in 2012.

Right-hander Rafael Montero won the Sterling Organizational Pitcher of the Year Award.

Flores, 21, had a tremendous campaign this season hitting a combined .300 with 18 homers and 75 RBIs between St. Lucie and Binghamton. After experiencing some regression in 2011, Flores as catapulted himself back to the top of the rankings as a prospect.

  • Not for nothing, I posted the link to this article already. this was in ESPN NY. Please craig, if you’re gonna post an article that someone else wrote or from another website, be kind enough to start with where you got this from. don’t want people to think MMO is stealing articles and posting it as if they did it ok.

    • This looks like Mets news more than an article. I’m certain Metsblog and MMO get these press releases same as the beat writers, no?

    • Not sure. i saw it on ESPN NY. if it is then my mistake. I just would not want this site to be known as copy cats.

    • Alex I agree that it’s important to give credit where credit is due but all blogs that are signed up by the Mets are sent these press releases. So when he says the Mets have released he is in fact correct.

  • Thanks Craig. All these pitchers (6 of 8 awards) is great news.

  • Robles had a great season. Honestly, I thought they would pick Nimmo by default, but they gave it to the most deserving which was great to see. Robles went 6-1 in 12 starts with 1.11 ERA, 0.781 WHIP, 73 IP, 66 K, 10 BB. In four seasons since being signed at 17 as a IFA by Omar Minaya, Robles never had a WHIP over 1.18 with ERAs of 2.91, 3.09, 2.68, 2.11. And unlike the rest of our top pitching prospects, this one has a walk rate under 4 in fact’s it’s 2.1 BB/9 in four seasons to go with a 8.4 K/9 rate.

    • Montero and Mateo also have very low walk rates. Robles was the best of an incredible Brooklyn staff. The pitching depth in the minors is unlike we’ve had around here in a long time. we’re probably going to have to trade a few of them to get some much needed position players.
