David Wright Breaks All-Time Mets Record For Hits!

CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVID WRIGHT!

With an infield single in the bottom of the third inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates, David Wright surpassed Ed Kranepool to become the new all-time hits leader for the New York Mets.

After breaking Kranepool’s mark with hit number 1,419 of his career, he added to that in his next at-bat with another single to put him at 1,420.

Wright is now one of just four active players to lead his franchise’s all-time hits list, along with Derek Jeter of the Yankees, Todd Helton of the Rockies and Michael Young of the Rangers. He also leads the Mets in career doubles, extra-base hits, walks, RBI and runs scored.

Congrats to David and feel free to click the image to enlarge it and download it for your own social media pages.

  • Contrats to DWright!

    • Pretty impressed with his interview after game, always a class act .

  • Congrats Mr. Wright!!!! Great player (at a position that was a turnstile for this team) and an absolute classy guy. Hope he’s here for the duration of his career.

  • Woot woot

  • Just caught the post-game interview. A lot of class.

Not quite half way to the 3,000 mark. I don’t think David will have enough time in his career to duplicate Jeter’s achievement but I do think he has a chance to finish at about 2,500.

Just hope he achieves that as a Met.

    • I got the post game interviews as well.

Had to feel good for Wright during KBs interview – he was all smiles. He ended that on air interview saying he wants to be back. I had to chuckle though as he was looking around during that interview, I believe on the lookout for Turner. :-)

During Terry’s post game presser someone asked him: ‘You’re around Wright every day – he’s usually one of the first here, the last to leave…is this what a Captain of a team is?’
Terry didn’t hesitate in saying yes. Went on to say there’s a reason he can play 156-160 games a year (last year’s back injury notwithstanding). His dedication to taking care of himself, he never waivers – both before and after the game. He went on to say if I’m a young player and I’m asking myself what I need to do to be good in this league? ‘I’m following David Wright. I’m doing what he does’.

Leader by example, is my translation. He’s serious in his dedication to playing the game. He plays through injuries. He’s a team player first – playing for the name on the front of his uniform, not a ‘stat padder’. When asked if tonight felt different than last night he answered yes, because they won the game.

I actually saw a hypothetical future breakdown on him getting to 3,000 hits and I believe you’re right. He’d have to play until 39 and have to hit almost as good as these younger years to reach 3,000. Somewhere around 2,500 seems more on the mark. But you never know…..

  • Hey Joe D, did you make it out to tonight’s game or am I confusing that with tomorrow?

  • Tonight I saw more of why I say Wright is the face of the franchise. He plays great baseball, he’s a humble human, and he gives great interviews. He does it all, from the street to the playing field.

During the interview he didn’t play hardball as his negotiating position. He smiled and said he wanted to come back. The ball is in the Mets court now.

  • Great graphic. Thanks MMO.

  • Congrats DW… #5 in our program #98431378976 in our hearts, Lol Jk!!! :-D
