It’s still classified as a trade, a trade that was in his 3rd offseason as GM. Even if it was a FA signing it didn’t happen until his 3rd offseason not when he got here. His free agent signing of a PH who made 41 starts did nothing to boost attendance. Attendance got boosted in 1984.

That’s not a free agent signing. A horrible move I might add. Staub was a PH/ spot starter. Probabaly started 35-40 games. Not a big attendance boost. Attendance went down from 80 to 81 and again from 82 to 83. Attendance started to take off in 84 which coincided with winning. Nothing Cashen did really boosted attendance until the team started winning.

Look the name of the game is pitching, the Mets are stacked with affordable young pitching. If the Mets where to move a piece like famillia who looks like he could be a lock down closer would you really feel comfortable getting Justin Upton after the year that he has had? I actually thought last year he would be a superstar and probably still can be, but I am not giving up a top pitching prospect for him.

I actually do like Coco in center but not for 7 mill, they would have to take half of the bill, 3.5 for Coco is reasonable. And I am not giving up any big piece for him either. Oakland is loaded in the outfield and does not really need him so its worth a look. I love Cory Hart who can play first as well as right field. Gomez in center I love because he is still very young and has all the tools, good year this year and might be his breakout year in 13. I am not sure about a Murphy for Gregerson move, it would certainly help bullpen and mets can go Valdespin or sign a Kelly johnson. Tough call cause I am such a murphy fan.

The Mets do need an outfielder this off season no doubt, I have not heard any mention of a toolsy player named Shin Soo Choo. 2nd year arbitration eligible right fielder who always has a high on base percentage, plays very good defense, and two 20 20 season already. You probably do not have to give up as much for him as Upton or Hart and he will cost less. Now I would give up more for a deal involving Chris Perez and Choo. Perez can close for a few years as he is not a free agent untill 2015 and Choo can be an immediate upgrade in right field. Two big upgrades for about nine to ten million as apposed to Uptons 13 mill. Both will be available over the winter and should definitely be on the rador. For what it is worth Famillia looks like he got the goods to be a dominate closer so i would be leaning on moving Mejia if I had to deal a young pitcher.
