I agree when it comes to David, he seems totally out of it since the ASG.

How many RBI, HR, etc since?
>251, 6 HR, 21 RBI, 10 2B, 47 K'S, 25 BB, .741 OPS
He has lost over .300 on OPS and now has more strikeouts than walks, his hitting approach has changed from line drive hitter to upper cut on ball.

I don't know if this is fatigue but he did play in 82 games before ASG but maybe the mental load just took him down, I doubt that is was physical conditioning because he has always seemed just as good in 2nd half as 1st but only David know and he won't cop to being tired anyway.

Well Wear and Tear is not in play if you are playing regularly and building up the body to be able to take that punishment.

Pelfrey is the exception but then again he has been injured (if you believe him) every year for the past 3!

When it comes right down to it look at the players who made the first half a good one!
They are all guys who have never had the stamina yet to finish and play an entire season.

Maybe next year that changes, Maybe they only get to September, or Maybe we finally make a move that puts some emotional energy into them that can offset the loss of the rigors. Sometime Mental Energy can make up for lack of Physical!

well, some guys had injuries not related to running out of gas, so can't really count those. Gee of course. and Johan. Pelf blew out his elbow in April (May?) so that isn't wearing out from a long season!

And Neise this year is cruising right along, so whatever extra conditioning (plus the nose job) seems to have done the trick.

This is where the roids and amphetamines of the past years (yes even going back to the 60's) came in handy...People don't realize how demanding it is to go on the road and play baseball 6 days a week and your only off day you spend traveling or in the weight room.

I do think that players spend too much time working out in the gym during the season. I think that once the season hit's this point, that hitting the gym won't do anything for you expect wear you down.

Now I don't feel sorry for any of these guys, yes, Baseball is now a 356 a day 10 hour day...but for the money these guys make...I'd do it.

But there is something to be said for the lack of support from the FO...if the guys running the team don't operate like you have a shot, it's gotta be hard to put 100% in every game.

I mentioned this in another post....

Name all the players on our team who have played a full 162 game season?

It's sure easier and a shorter list than the guys who have not!

But I'll mention some names here....

Ike Davis - Coming off two half seasons (really about 1 season's worth in two years!)
Daniel Murphy - Coming off Two ACL operations in two years and only playing two HALF seasons in two years because of it!
Santana - Missed a year and a half over the last two years!
Lucas Duda - Played a half a season as a starter in the MLB last year after being a bench player for most of it.
Reuben Tejada - Still has yet to play a full year as a starter in the MLB!
Hairston - Was a role player who has been used more this year than at anytime save 2009 and it's likely he will surpass that before the year is out!
Chris Young - Coming off two short injury plagued seasons
Dillon Gee - Still has yet to play through a whole season.
Jason Bay - Has yet to play a full season since he got here!
Thole - Has never played a full schedule and this is the most he has played since we brought him up.

Now other than the last two guys on that list the rest are all the biggest contributors not named Wright on our team!
How can you expect them to not run out of gas when they have missed a lot of time and do not have the stamina to make it through the rigors of an entire season?

What you can hope on here is that MAYBE next season they will have that seasonal conditioning to not run out of gas in the second half!

so you are saying that over the course of a long season, guys need a day off here and there to stay fresh? that is SOP though.

And Dickey did not seem to be too fatiqued yesterday!

playoff teams also tend to rest everyday guys down the stretch (assuming of course they are not fighting tooth and nail for a spot)

1-2 guys is not an epidemic (and Tejada is still young, playing a demanding position daily). But if the whole team is worn out, then you need to really look at the conditioning program.
