Rule #1 in being a GM. Don't get high on your own supply. It's okay for the mostly clueless Mets fans to be starstruck by the hype, the teams know they are saps and feed their frenzy. But a GM is supposed to be a talent evaluator. He's supposed to look at a players development curve and constantly reassess that players value to the organization from month to month. Good GM's keep depth charts that change and evolve weekly or monthly. They dont hone in on walks or OBP alone for hitters and K-rates for pitchers and let that dictate promotions from level to level. If you read Toby Hyde's blog you will read almost everyday about those things and of course he is one of their lackeys. They are clueless as to the true value and ceiling of their players and are afraid to move any of them for fear they may move the wrong one. The Nats were in the same boat as the Mets two years ago. Look at them now. We targeted players who were 60-72 months away, while they targeted players who were 10-15 months away. By the time Nimmo arrives, over three dozen from his draft class will already be in the majors for 3-4 years and made an impact. Alderson likes to throw that 2014 around like some cheap con-mans gimmick, but it's just that, a gimmick. If he was serious about 2014 he wouldn't be wasting top picks on players who won't be here until 2017 if they make it here at all. Dont get high on your own supply.

Was at the game last night. IronPigs have quite a following out in Allentown.
Familia has big league stuff, but needs to field his position better. Even the plays he did make looked shaky.
Duda did not look like he wanted to be there. He failed to dive on a ball in the gap that was definitely catchable in the 9th inning of a tie game.
The catching was terrible. Lucas May allowed 3 wild pitches and Nickeas lost the game on a ball he couldn't control, and also allowed a stolen base.
Wally Backman returned from suspension and Zack Wheeler was charting pitches behind home plate.

It's a shame that we didn't move Familia when we had the chance. Now that he's been exploited as a AAAA player with command issues, his value has plummeted to that of a minor league throw-in in a trade. Every scout pointed out his inconsistent release point from the day he first hit the scene. In a best case scenario he looked like a mid bullpen guy. Now he doesn't even look like that. Just another case of a GM who doesn't understand what he really has in hi system and cant identify the keepers from the fringe prospects. Sad part is they did the same with Den Dekker, they had him ranked at the top of their outfield and look at him now? In spring training they talked about these two like untouchables and were clueless to significant flaws that would keep either from excelling at AAA let alone the majors. Bad job overall. Minaya had a great eye for talent, but even he knew when it was time to sell on Guerra, Milledge, Mulvey, Carp, etc. He didn't buy into his hype.
