Tyler Pill Named FSL Pitcher of the Month
The Florida State League announced that St. Lucie Mets pitcher Tyler Pill has been selected as the Topps Player of the Month for July.
Pill went 5-0 with a 1.55 ERA in July. In five starts, he struck out 28 and walked seven in 29 innings while allowing just five earned runs and 21 hits.
Pill won five consecutive games in July and allowed just one earned run in all five starts. He gave up four hits or less in four of five appearances and he struck out seven batters three times.
The 22-year-old has a 6-1 record with a 1.82 ERA through 10 appearances with the Mets.
Pill, a 6-1, 185-pound right-hander from Covina, California, was a fourth round draft pick by the Mets out of Cal State Fullerton in the 2011 draft.

This kid is a ‘comer.’ He’s got excellent command and three good pitches. If he keeps going, he’ll wind up as a new Number 3 starter on the Mets. If he adds a bit more zip to his fastball, the sky’s the limit.
He has been consistently solid all season long and through two levels. I havent seen him pitch he but I hope he starts the season in Binghamton in 2013 so I can start to watch his games. He’s been great this season and his numbers speak for themself.
No surprise here. Pill is the best pitcher in the FSL right now. Congrats to him!
