David Wright will be staying in New York. The Mets know that he is not the risk that Jose Reyes is in terms of injury. That was the deciding factor why Sandy Alderson refused to get involved in a bidding war to resign Jose. Add in the fact that the team believed that Ruben Tejada was ready to become a solid replacement for Jose and perhaps a smarter player too!

With the roster expanding on September 1 we will see more starts for the younger stud pitchers in the minor leagues that Sandy is counting on to be the center piece of this team. If Collin McHugh who has already pitched nicely in his audition and Zack Wheeler show that they are indeed ready to step up, then Sandy with a few moves in the off season can begin to fill some of the holes we have. Despite the bullpen woes we have suffered through, the brass is well aware that the major part of the problem is that the starters have not gotten into the late innings often enough. Five and six innings and then 4 and 5 run implosions do not spell success. We need to see our starters pitch 7 innings or more on a regular basis!

We can expect to see Chris Young and Mike Pelfrey gone after the 2012 season!

David has been the face of the Mets for several years and as solid a good citizen as you can expect. However, it is now time for David to think about what's best for David. He will want to wind up his career on a contender and that will not be happening with the Mets. In light of recent events, David would be best off with the Dodgers. Since the new Dodgers are now seeking to stock up on quality players, we should realize that he will most likely be in LA in 2013 working to win at least one and possibly several rings rior to his retirement. That will also assure David's place in the HOF provided that his health remains over the next decade. When that happens, I will remain a fan of David Wright and cheer him on in his future success.

I don't think it will be the end of the world if Wright leaves. It might even be good for the mets depending on who they can aquire in a trade. Imagine getting a good pitcher or a 25 or 30 homerun guy,we don't have that right now. not even Wright can hit 25 or 30 homeruns.I know all this boloney about being home grown and what a nice guy he is, but that does not win games. He's really good for 3 months and then not so good for 3 months.

Winning is very enticing however The Mets offer Wright something that few other franchises can offer, endorsement money. Wright is the face of the Mets on a winning team he would be good but that is where it would end. Wright is our guy cause he is home grown and been here for his whole career his power output is not star material even if his average is. All I'm saying is that most players talk about winning and then go where the money takes them. The Mets offer Wright money that noother franchise can match in endorsements. If I was his agent I would advise him to stay if the money is there.

So you think just because the Mets offer him a contract he's going to stay? It's ultimately Wright's decision, and just because they offer him a contract doesn't mean he will stay.

I get you, but I disagree entirely. I know there's the whole payroll thing and that thew Wilpons may not be out of the woods yet financially, but even they know letting Wright walk would be the death of this franchise. I just dont see that happening. They may lower payroll to $80 million dollars, but they'll still find a way to keep Wright. It would be organizational suicide if they traded him or let him walk after 2013.

You should cut your own tongue out for even whispering David Wright playing for the Stankees! I would hate for him to go anywhere else, but I could stomach it as long as it were not with the Skanks, Philthies, or Bravos!

If I were Wright I wouldn't like what I'm seeing as far as the direction of this franchise. First, he watched as his team struggled out of the gate in the 2nd half and the front office did nothing to stem the tide of losses by shoring up the bullpen or getting a RH bat. Granted, the cost of acquiring those players may have been prohibitive (i.e., Harvey, Wheeler). But still, for a veteran player to see a team in need with a front office unwilling to bring in help can't leave that player with much hope for the season. Secondly, he has to know the rumors that payroll is unlikely to change much for the 2013 season which translates into the team not being able to do much to bolster the roster to contend. Plus, if he signs an extension with the Mets that likely takes even more money away from other areas of need for at least the 2014 season if not beyond.

And third, even though the Mets farm system is getting incrementally better it still doesn't offer much in the way of impact players (aside from Harvey and Wheeler) for the foreseable future. The players who offer the most potential impact offensively (Nimmo, Cecchini) are at least 4 years away which means no sooner than 2015 at the earliest. So, if you consider the likely budget restraints put on by the Wilpon(zie)s combined with a farm system lacking in substantial impact for the near term and you have to realize that re-signing David Wright is going to be tough for the Mets. And I also wouldn't believe everything that comes out of Sandy Alderson's mouth either in terms of signing players, re-signing players, or acquiring players via trade. His track record here isn't real good as it stands.

"...David may still be playing baseball in New York. It just might end up being for the cross town rival Yankees."

Cannibalizing the New York market is not something the Commish's office is going to permit. Let's not forget that the business of baseball drives the game of baseball. David will wind up either with the Mets or an out-of-town team.

Sandy made it clear that he intends to offer Wright a deal, especially since he already approached Wright about one a few months ago. David wanted to wait until seasons end.

As for the money, he already makes $15 million so an extension probably in the $18-20 range annually is not a big deal.

He wants to win and I'm sure he was hoping just like the rest of us to see a few more potential winnings pieces develop around him this season.

The decision will come down to if he wants to stay in new York or not. It will be about winning and not so much the money. If he stays he will get paid well, just like he is now with a slight raise. But he wants to win and if we can't prove to him that to him this off season by taking some actions to prove that then he may not sign a new deal with us.
