Josh Edgin Is Fearless

josh edgin 55

Josh Edgin has not allowed a run in his last eight outings, spanning 7.1 innings. Overall, he has racked up 18 strikeouts in 10.0 innings of work and left-handed hitters are 4-23 (.174) with 12 strikeouts against him. On Monday night, Edgin earned his first major league victory, bit in my opinion he’s earned much more than that. He’s quickly become one of the most reliable arms in our bullpen and has shown remarkable poise, especially for a rookie who [...]

MMO Mailbag: Why Don’t The Mets Call Up Fred Lewis?

Fred Lewis

I received an interesting question from @GWNY on Twitter who asked me: Why don’t the Mets call up Fred Lewis to play LF? It’s a great question and one we’ve grappled with a couple of times in our Minor League comment threads this season. The answer as to why Lewis is still languishing in Buffalo is kind of a mystery to me. One could say they don’t want to add him to the 40-man roster [...]

On the mound for the B-Mets, Gonzalez Germen threw a total of seven innings in the game and in the process suffered his eighth loss of the season. In his outing on Wednesday night, Germen allowed three runs [...]

Jason Bay For Heath Bell And John Buck? Why Not?

Bay

Yesterday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported that the Mets and Marlins were discussing a deal before the trade deadline that would send Jason Bay to Miami, and bring Heath Bell and John Buck to the Mets. Although they weren’t close to a deal, they were discussing. All three players in this proposed trade are overpaid and not performing. However, it would be one that could could benefit both sides greatly. The Marlins would get a starting left fielder. They could move Logan Morrison to [...]

Zack Wheeler Promoted To Triple-A, Will Not Pitch For Mets This Season

wheeler

Zack Wheeler’s 11K performance for Double-A Binghamton last night has earned him a promotion. He’s headed to Triple-A Buffalo, the team announced this afternoon. Sandy Alderson also told reporters it was unlikely would pitch in the big leagues this season. The Mets GM said Wheeler has a limit in place of around 150 innings this season, and that will allow him to only pitch through the remainder of the Bisons’ season. Wheeler went 10-6 with a 3.26 [...]

Niese Great In Mets 2-1 Win Against Giants

New York Mets v Pittsburgh Pirates 5/23/12

Jonathon Niese had a great outing and Ruben Tejada notched his first homer of the season Game Recap Jonathon Niese struggled in the first inning, but after that seemed to get his bearings and really settled into a groove. Niese would wind up going seven innings, allowing one run on three hits, walking two and striking out five. The only downside to Niese this entire season has been giving up the long-ball to righties, as [...]

MMO Fan Shot: A GM Sometimes Takes The Bullet For What Ownership Decides

Sandy Alderson

The first all professional baseball team, that is, the first team to pay all of its players, was the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. The team was owned and operated by members of a Ohio Law firm. Since that time, the business of baseball has evolved in countless ways. Player unions, media revenue, sponsorships, advertising dollars, taxpayer funded ballparks, revenue sharing, and collective bargaining agreements are just a few of the many ways the business of [...]

Mets All Time Trade Deadline Deals

kazmir

Everyone is talking about the fact that the Mets did nothing at the trade deadline. In reality, what were their options? We all know that they don’t have the money or the personnel to make any kind of meaningful trade. It started me thinking about other deadline deals that the Mets did make. Here are just a few that stand out to me: July 31, 2006 - Mets acquire Roberto Hernandez and Oliver Perez from the [...]
