Let’s face it. The only way this team can become competitive is for new ownership to take over. I agree that this ownership is as bad as Mrs. Payson’s heirs who inherited the team in the mid 1970s. Neither her daughter nor her husband had any interest in owning a baseball team. This ownership has no money. The net effect today is the same as in the late 1970s. The Wilpons have proven over the last few years since the Madoff scandal broke that they are way in over their heads. They don’t have the resources to field a competitive team anymore. THE WILPONS MUST GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Somehow this is starting to feel worse to me. They bought in someone to completely hack the roster and payroll to pieces. That’s his primary mission. When Cashen came he went about the business of rebuilding and rebuild he did. His draft picks came through in a big way. What draft picks does Depoo have to his credit that are still major leaguers? Any Backman’s, McDowell’s, Mitchell’s Dykstra’s, Strawberry’s, Gooden’s he drafted that I dont know about? I mean two years and we’re still living off the fat of the land that Minaya left behind. Even Francesa told him when the heck are you gonna make this your team? He thought it was funny but the joke is on him and the question was valid.

Well unless they can invoke the ghost of Frank Cashen, we are not going to see any immediate improvement so it is what it is. I just won’t spend any of my hard earned dollars on this debacle.

Late 70s were really rough, but I do see parallels. It wasn’t until 1983, when Darryl first came up, that the light appeared at the end of the tunnel.
