Hey, I just want to say that I really enjoy reading these minor league updates. Thanks a bunch and keep them coming. It’s fun to read about guys that may make the Mets in a year or two.

It’s too bad he doesn’t appear to have the speed for the OF.
If they do extend DWright and Flores keeps developing and looks like a keeper – wonder if they would consider moving Wright from 3rd?

from everything I remember reading about Flores, he has a good glove (and played well at SS), it was just the quickness/footspeed/range (whatever you want to call it) that was an issue. But he was a solid fielder with good hands and arm.

so, logically, he should look good at 2B, with the feet being the issue (though less so than at SS).

if he really does not have the range to play 2B at the ML level (not that Murphy is fantastic in that regard), then 3B really does seem like his ultimate home. I think he has done OK over there so far?

I really thought the 2B experiment had more to do with Wright. If/when they extend DW, Flores is the 3B without a future. Might as well find out now where else he can play on the field, since his bat could bring him up quickly (AAA next year).

Yeah I think he will land at a corner infield spot. This second-base experiment is doomed to fail, due to lack of range. His foot speed is actually pretty slow, he has no top gear. I expect that is why they haven’t tried him in the OF, nor will they. Also, he’s a big kid, and still growing, so I’m not sure the middle infield makes a lot of sense.

Nice recap of the minor games.

Been keeping my eye on Flores. Where do you think his best or eventual position will be?
From everything I’m reading, still sounds like 3rd base to me.

Great analysis Pete! I’m thinking this has to be close to a full-time job?

Your point on Francesa is well-taken, that Nimmo is still a solid pick, but the reality is 70% of what Francesa said has a lot of footing (he is WAY OFF in terms of us “real fans” being clueless). The Mets didn’t sign more than 1/2 of their picks and they really didn’t draft any high-ceiling players.

Anyway, with Kingsport struggling mightily and with no GCL team, how would you grade the Mets 2012 draft? More importantly, how did our draft stack up with some of the other perennial contenders? To me, it seems KIngsport has very little hitting and even less power prospects than many other teams.
