You have to be careful though with minor league stats, especially in the lower levels. I think while he's not putting up eye-poping numbers, it's a good sign that he's holding his own against competition that is older and more experienced than him.

I think the key for him in the end is going to be, as he fills out, how much power is he going to develop? Is he going to be a 20+ HR guy, or will be a 10-15HR hitter? If it's the latter, it's going to be tough for him to be a good everyday player. Because when he does fill out, I think he's going to have to move to a corner OF spot, and you always look to have power at those positions.

gorgeguy,

You are aware they are both still "TEENAGERS"....lol...I'm not saying either will be great but it is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too early to make assumptions on either. Now when they start playing full season ball thats when the real evaluations begin

Cecchini may turn out to be a decent shortstop, but a #1 pick? As I'm a Mets fan, I am automatically a pessimist, and see Gavin as similar to the another SS who was a #1 pick of the Mets in 1995: Ryan Jaroncyk. Guy never made it to AA, and even his "progress" at each successive level was weak. His highest OPS as a Met was .665!!!!

I am also watching Nimmo with almost as much reluctance. Many strikeouts and an OPS of .815 is not exactly making up for the concerns.
