Episode One: Attack Of The Metsmerized Radio Show!

Good Afternoon Mets Fans!

Tonight at 6:00 PM will be the debut of our Mets Merized Radio Show on Blog Talk Radio.

We have a great one-hour show planned, and we are happy to announce that our first guest will be notable and featured columnist Craig Wolff of the Newark Star-Ledger.

Craig started his career with co-host Stephen Hanks at SPORT Magazine in the late 1970s, when the Mets were in the doghouse. He went on to cover the Mets and NY Rangers for the New York Times, taught journalism at Columbia University and New York University and now is a special feature sports and news writer for the Ledger.

He has recently interviewed all the members of the Mets current front office for an upcoming feature in the paper, and he’ll give us a glimpse and some insight into what the braintrust may be thinking going forward.

Then we’ll talk September callups with MMO’s Minor League Editor, Pete Shapiro, who is back from a day with the Brooklyn Cyclones where he talked to Brandon Nimmo and Gavin Cecchini.

We’ll have some time to take live callers and even field a question or two from Twitter from Metsmerized Fan Correspondent, Satish Ram.

Join us and Lets Get Metsmerized!

Listen to our show here on our Metsmerized Radio Show Page.

Original Post 8/28

Hi everyone, I’m writing this post to share some exciting news with you as I officially announce the much anticipated debut of the Metsmerized Radio Show.

The show is set to debut this Thursday and every Thursday after that in the 6:00 PM EST time slot.

Metsmerized Radio is something that has been on and off the table for about three years. But finally, after some extensive research on the part of many, and the opportunity arising to make it all happen, we took the proverbial plunge back in July and have been working diligently to develop a product that was a winner and that would be sustainable. (Hey, where have I heard that before?)

What will make Metsmerized Radio stand out is that right from the beginning we wanted to be sure that it would be something refreshingly different. Every radio show begins and ends with the hosts and after much consideration, we put together a team that is vibrant, knowledgeable, passionate and unafraid to be daring.

Our two co-hosts come from two vastly different eras in Metsdom and they are Matthew Falkenbury who you all know from the Daily Stache, and Stephen Hanks, a longtime magazine editor and former owner of New York Sports magazine back in the eighties. Stephen lived through the two miracles of 1969 and 1986 and what it took to build those teams, while Matt anxiously thirsts to see a championship of his own. Together, their contrasting styles make for some solid debate each week as they tackle the never-ending supply of Mets news and drama.

The one hour show will also feature a regular segment on the Mets minor league’s from MMO Minor League Editor, Pete Shapiro. Pete will share his extensive knowledge on all the prospects whom he meets regularly as he travels to see them either at home or on the road. This week in particular, Pete will be reporting on his visit with the Cyclones as he spends the day talking with the manager, coaches and of course the players like Kevin Plawecki and Brandon Nimmo.

No show would be complete without you, the listeners. and each week will feature live callers as Matt and Stephen tackle your every question and concern about the team and the players,.as we make you an active and engaging part of our show’s dynamic. That total fan concept that makes MMO the thriving community that it is will be a big part of each broadcast.

We will also field a couple of questions from the Mets Twitterverse as MMO’s Fan Correspondent, Satish Ram, stretches out his social media limbs to bring the show some added depth from a whole other Mets world that almost has a life of its own.

Each week will also feature a Special Guest who can bring some additional insights on the latest Mets news and happenings, and for our debut show we are honored to have Mark Simon from ESPN joining us. Mark, a lifelong Mets fan that needs no introduction, is the widely popular Stats & Information Research Specialist for ESPN and a Mets Historian as well. His out of the box insights and unique perspectives are always a refreshing departure from the usual commentary you see everywhere else, and it will be fun to hear his thoughts as the Mets’ season winds down.

*** We had initially planned to have ESPN’s Mark Simon on, but something came up last minute and we’ll have him on in a couple of weeks instead.

We are also planning a special 90 minute show right after that, when we expect to have Adam Rubin on as our featured guest, as well as the Blog Father Matt Cerrone. That will be quite a show.

So there’s a brief introduction into what I know will be a show you won’t want to miss, and we invite all of you to listen live or replay our podcasts which will be made available on the DailyStache.net and MetsmerizedOnline.com shortly after every show.

It’s gonna be a blast!

  • Just tried posting this but it didn’t work: I’d tune in if only to listen to Stephen Hanks regale us with tales of Mets past. He’s always an excellent read and it’d be nice to hear what he has to say when not restrained by the speed of a pen. Definitely looking forward to it!

    • Thanks for the shout out FP. You’ll have to email me at stephenhanks41@gmail.com and reveal your true identity! Enjoy the show. Hope I’m up to it. ;) –Stephen

  • Congratulations! Looking forward to listening.

  • Can a You Tube channel be far behind?

    Congrats on the podcast Joe!

    • Funny you ask Metsie…teaser :-)

      • Well remember I’m a video engineer so if you guys need help let me know…

  • Hey Joe,

Congratulations and all the success in the world with your new venture. It sounds like it’s really going to be fun.

Francesa – eat your heart out!

    Again, all the best.

  • Good luck with the show, I always thought you should have one. Mostly I’m glad that you’ll be taking callers which is why I listen to most sports radio.

  • Is there going to be a pool on how many minutes into the first show the words hater and Slurper are used? LOL

    • Hi Metsie,

I was going to ask Joe the same thing along with “liar” and two other four letter words but didn’t want to cause a downer on such an exciting announcement for him.

    • No room on our radio show for that kind of talk. We’re too classy for that. Let’s keep that good stuff on the blog. LOL

      • Well it’s a good thing comments are limited to how many calls you take otherwise the show would miss it’s hard out time every episode! lol

Cause if what was said on yesterday’s show was said here in print…300 comment thread EASILY! LOL

  • Congrats JoeD, Good Luck!

  • Thanks much for all the support everyone! Hope you enjoy!

  • LoL, funniest sequence to MMO’s Inaugural Podcast was listening to Pete’s reply about possibly being flown out to Vegas via sponsors if the Mets AAA affiliate moves out there.

    “Sponsors?! Sponsors? Really?”

    :-D

  • Fun show! Seemed to go off without a hitch. Hosts seem comfortable, and Pete and Satish both sound like naturals! Excellent work to all involved!

  • Hey fellas, I just wanted to say I enjoyed the show so much. You now have a regular weekly listener in me. Look forward to next week.

  • Congrats. What an achievement! Hope there’s many more to come and may each one get much much much better then that one. Again, bravo!

    • You tell the truth, Murph! :)

  • Loved the show. The show was an affirmation of the knowledge and insight of the Met fans that post on this site. I felt I was hearing a repeat of many of the comments I read here about Collins, the players. the organization, and on and on. One thing is for sure after listening to the show and that is the Wilpons are not going to be able to fool us.. Very few teams if any have a smarter fan base than the Mets.

    • Great comment, Lou. Hope you keep listening!

  • I was able to catch about a half-hour’s worth. It was terrific.

    • Years from now a trivia question will be who was the very 1st voice ever heard on Metsmerized Radio? The answer will be Brandon “Freaking” Nimmo. LoL :-D

      • With the answer to the Question of who was the second voice being, “Some guy from a Mets blog named after Facial Hair” lol

      • Brandon “Freaking” Nimmo, LOL I bet the core doesn’t give the show a salute!!! Well played MMO, well played!

  • Great first show guys. Congratulations!! Was a bit disappointed to hear what the front office’s true view/ wish may be regarding David Wright’s future with the team. Seems like the front office and ownership have differing views from what Craig Wolf had to say. If David Wright does end up on another team, I hope we are smart enough to trade him for a package of near ready blue chip prospects. We can’t lose Wright the way we lost Reyes without getting anything of value for him.

    • Thanks Grizzly. Without giving anything away that I might say on the show, I really think we all have to seriously consider a Mets world without David Wright, but I’m sure if he goes we’ll get back some talent. Just look at how dealing stars for younger players has helped the A’s (ironically).

  • Just heard the show and thought it was great. Congrats on a great debut!

    • Thanks a bunch, Kramer!

  • Craig Wolff is my new hero!

  • Metsie, you think Craig Wolff sounded good on the show. Wait until you hear his Jerry Lewis impression! ;)

    • LOL Tom actually I thought all of you did a bang up job!

It was a great departure from what we see in print around here because all of you were honest and candid in the discussion.

There were no Sacred cows and no polarizing bias’ exhibited!

      REFRESHING!

If more people around here were interested in ashonest a discussion as you guyshad we would not have the arguments we do around here!

You got a regular listener in me!
