Hitting for average makes hitting for power moot. You don’t need to hit doubles to score runs.
The only knock anyone can make in regards to Tejada is he has no speed on the bases, but all that means is he is not a good leadoff hitter.

But a pretty damn good #2 if we had a leadoff hitter!

The glove is good can’t complain there. The only time he had issues this year was with some throwing errors turning the DP and that was becauase he got taken out pretty good on a couple of those and became gun shy forcing his throwing errors, but I have not seen him do that lately.

Ike Davis WILL hit at leat 30 HRs this year and maybe drive in 100 RBI

He got hurt last year and missed the season after only around 150 ABs – in his soph year
Came into ST with Valley Fever after missing a year – after his rookie season

He will be a MAJOR impact player like I’ve always said he will be. It’s just going to take time – meanwhile there are other areas to work on.

Duda has a comparative advantage at 1B and Ike has a comparative advantage at RF. This is international economics concept. I applaud you for recognizing this and calling it to our attention. This is so even though Ike saves DW in particular at least six errors on throws in the dirt which Duda won’t scoop up. Ike would make up for it by catching 30 balls a year that Duda would have let in the gap ordrop in for a bloop hit. I agree with you on Tejeda who actually has all star potential.

I’ve wanted Hunter forever because as you mention, his leadership is so great. He would kind of replace the void Cliff Floyd left that was never filled. But I doubt he would want to sign with us. He’ll have plenty of suiters.

I have to agree with Mr. North Jersey on this one. Sandy talked in terms of what he hoped he would have and again reiterated that he had not spoken to the Wilpons about budget. Though I do not believe him, he did not change his story line this time around.

What I think is more important was R.A. Dickey’s take on the interview. When talking about his future with the Mets he said “I would like to know what direction that we’re going. I think that’s fair. Make the decisions accordingly.”

To me, I read this as R.A. not being sure about the ownership’s intentions. No mention about either side of the coin – re-building the team to be competitive again or downsizing the team in order for them to retain it. Dickey is an intelligent individual and has been in the business long enough to understand these things so if it was clear to him that Sandy did indeed have a “vision” there would be no call for his saying he needs to know the direction the team is headed to.
