Citi Field Homer’s Odyssey
CITI FIELD HOME RUNS
The Mets have surrendered seven home runs so far on their current homestand (four games), including six that are “new” Citi Field home runs or that would not have cleared the fences last season.
Overall, the Mets have hit 14 “new” Citi Field home runs and allowed 19.
The Mets are tied for 23rd in the majors with 97 home runs and have allowed 113 home runs, ranking 16th in the majors.
The Mets as a team hit a home run every 39.5 at-bats.

So basically this is saying we helped the opposition more than we helped ourselves?
What it means is they should have never torn down Shea!
Hard to believe, Didn’t the Mets imply that the only team who would be helped would be the Mets?
They did statistical analysis before they did it and predicted it would help us more than the opposition…
Of course they used the same calculator that told them Torres was a Good CF, ramirez, Rauch and Francisco were fine BP additions and Jason bay could be our RH power bat just before the trade deadline.
Stupid mistake bringing the fences in. It was from the get-go and was plain to see.
That whole ballpark is a mistake.Shea dimensions were fair to hitters and pitchers.Than the mgmt decided to build a ballpark with dimensions like the grand canyon.Brilliant
The Mets never developed a good simulation program tied to the operational philosophy they wanted to employ. There are off-the-shelf programs, tailored by simulation experts, that could have been used. With a projected yearly budget (as determined by the Mets) over a ten, twenty or whatever number of years period, they could have then emphasized pitching, defense, offense, etc., for their drafts and trades. It would have also aided the design of outfield distances, wall sizes, foul line buffer areas to catch balls, home plate foul ball areas, etc. A simple statistical analysis would help but when combined with simulations, the Mets would be able to design the park for the player types they wanted. To the best of my knowledge, the knuckle draggers who don’t think outside the box never thought of or did any of this stuff. So here we are today tinkering with the outfield dimensions and getting players who aren’t suited for CitiField.
” good simulation program”? Are u talking about a moon launch or getting some baseball players?
gary s. — C’mon. I didn’t think you were a guy with bruised knuckles from scraping the ground. There’s been programs doing complex queuing for 20-25 years.
And u expect the Wilpons to spend money on this kind of a thing???Hilarious
The Mets are 11th in HR at home and are 12th in HR away so clearly the stadium has absolutely nothing to do with it.
How about the fact that the Mets lineup is riddled with guys with very little power and the fact that the Mets almost always have a lineup with less power than the opposition on a given day.
Nice try though…
Here is something to look at instead of wasting time counting HR totals.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/pitching/league/nl
Notice how the standings almost match up perfectly with team ERA and notice how the Mets collapsed the second Gee and Santana simultaneously got hurt???? Coincidence, I think not…
Which goes back to what many of us said originally when they were thinking about bringing in the walls…
You want more HRs then get some HR hitters!
David Wright is not really a HR hitter he is a high average hitter with power. But that “with power” doesn’t make him Ryan Howard!
Carlos Beltran had Power but no one thought of him as a HR hitter.
Piazza was a HR hitter, Strawberry was a HR hitter, Ryan Howard is a HR hitter, there is no one on this team who fits that profile yet we brought the fences in to get those HRs when what we needed more was to get a HR hitter!
And what have we done with the two guys who could fit that role?
Replace our HR leader with Murphy so Cedeno can get into games
Sent the 4th best HR hitter down to the Minors
The main issue of this lineup is there is not one batter that truly scares the hell out of anyone! Not even Wright especially since he started uppercutting again the way he did the last few years where K’s were his most likely contribution.
Our other HR hitters are just as likely (or more likely) to make an out as hit a HR (which is why we keep replacing them in games and consider sending them down).
If they really wanted more HRs then instead of moving the fences they should have moved some kids to get one!
Sorry that reply was meant for the post you made above this one.
