Wonder if the Mets learned a lesson?? Carry 2 lefty relievers from spring training onward. I feel a big part of the trouble with their bullpen has been the management of the players. There were a couple of games they lost in May or June that hinged on needing another lefty.

At the very least, they should have kept Hampton for a bit longer before they DFA’d him. He didn’t pitch that bad and I think it was fortunate that he cleared waivers and went back to Buffalo.

One reason why is because your going to wind up overusing him which would cause him to lose his effectiveness and put him at risk of an injury(like Feliciano).

Now Byrdak is on the DL…….. even if the injury isn’t serious, you could see his performance was suffering because he was overused(7.45 ERA in July).

You can’t have a 38 year old pitcher have the most appearances in the league, and not have his performance suffer from it and not expect him to be at risk of an injury.
