Byrdak To DL With Sore Shoulder
The New York Mets have announced that left handed reliever Tim Byrdak has been placed on the 15 Day DL with a sore left shoulder.
Byrdak, 38, will have an MRI in New York on Monday and will be examined by team doctors from the Hospital for Special Surgery.
Byrdak said he injured himself delivering a slider in the road trip opener in Arizona last Thursday.
“I threw that last slider on a strikeout and I just kind of felt something in the back of my shoulder roll a little bit,” Byrdak said.
“I started seeking treatment on it right away, but it was a situation where it’s still there. It’s not getting any better.”
The Mets lefty specialist is 2-2 for the season with a 4.41 in 56 appearances spanning 30.2 innings.

I’ve been saying this for almost two years now – It was a very bad idea to only go with one lefty in the bullpen especially one that is 38 years old. One reason why is because your going to wind up overusing him which would cause him to lose his effectiveness and put him at risk of an injury(like Feliciano).
Now Byrdak is on the DL…….. even if the injury isn’t serious, you could see his performance was suffering because he was overused(7.45 ERA in July).
You can’t have a 38 year old pitcher have the most appearances in the league, and not have his performance suffer from it and not expect him to be at risk of an injury.
Totally agree Vinny. Wonder if the Mets learned a lesson?? Carry 2 lefty relievers from spring training onward. I feel a big part of the trouble with their bullpen has been the management of the players. There were a couple of games they lost in May or June that hinged on needing another lefty.
At the very least, they should have kept Hampton for a bit longer before they DFA’d him. He didn’t pitch that bad and I think it was fortunate that he cleared waivers and went back to Buffalo.
