Yes, he was sure to have been tiring, reaching the 100 pitch count by the fifth inning but that was also when the batters were having their second go-round at him too since this is probably the first time most had faced him. Did he say he was tired in any post-game interview?

Watched part of game, Wheeler looked decent. His fastball looked good.
Paterson came in to relief him and looked like a Sunday baseball player. Looked stiff and like a player that would play on a Sunday league.

Oliver Perez in minors had a 4.1 BB/9 and a 9.6 K/9. 3.59 ERA

Zack Wheeler in minors has a 4.2 BB/9 and 9.6 K/9. 3.52 ERA.

Perez was actually more impressive because as a lefty he faced more right-handed batters.

Lets stop putting the cart before the horse.

Walks kill, and I’m sure those impressive 7Ks added to his 101 pitch count before he came out in the 5th.

I expect Wheeler will get better as he gets more experience pitching against better hitters at this level.

And for those like Rubin who was lobbying for him to come up before Harvey…..might want to note that start last night. Wheeler can only benefit from some innings at triple A before he’s called up for his debut.

I thought it was interesting that the Syracuse announcers were more focused on and more excited about Wheeler than they were of their own players. His fastball seemed pretty straight but the motion was real easy. Not a bad outing.
