Bisons Starter Collin McHugh Named IL Pitcher Of The Week
The International League announced today that Buffalo Bisons pitcher Collin McHugh has been named the League’s Pitcher of the Week for the period from August 13-19.
McHugh was brilliant this week, allowing just one run in 12.2 innings of work for the Bisons against the Pawtucket Red Sox. On Monday McHugh took the hill at home and turned in 5.2 innings of one-run baseball, but left with the score knotted 1-1 and did not factor into the decision. Then on Saturday McHugh got the ball for the “Futures at Fenway” matchup with Pawtucket at Boston’s Fenway Park.McHugh was dominant on the big stage, scattering five hits over 7.0 shutout innings in the 2-0 Buffalo victory.
It was the first win for McHugh in seven starts since the All Star Break, despite the fact he owns a 2.70 ERA during that stretch.
25-year-old Collin McHugh is in his fifth season as a professional pitcher and his first at the Triple-A level. He began the 2012 season with Double-A Binghamton but was promoted in June after posting a 2.41 ERA through his first 12 starts. McHugh is a native of Covington, Georgia.
McHugh is the second member of the Bisons to be so honored this season, following Fred Lewis (July 9-15).

I’d really like them to find some way to get this kid on the 40 man and call him up for a few starts. We’ve seen what Hefner brings, like to see what McHugh would do up here now.
It would be nice to see Mchugh and Mejia get some of the starts in September to get a baseline for what they can bring to the table now. And I believe Mchugh has to be added to the 40 man in the off season anyway.
Presently, there are 42 players named on the 40 man roster. Pelfrey and Gee aren’t on it but are still listed. that leaves 40 players, one of whom is Byrdak.
Also, Acosta, Johnson and Nickeas are all still listed.
The Mets should be able to make some room for him.
Well, Acosta is actually in the BP up here. Are you saying removing him would be no big deal?
Not that I think he’s anything special but we’re already a man short in that BP using this six man rotation.
If they’re going to shut Johan down, I’d rather they just go back to the 5 man rotation.
- Don’t understand the need for Young to get any extra rest. He didn’t start pitching until June and won’t likely be back anyway.
- This is the year Niese was supposed to show he could be strong going down the stretch, making a full season of 30-32 starts.
- Dickey doesn’t need extra rest
- Harvey might be on an innings limit so just skip a start for him and use one of Mejia or McHugh, if they’re called up.
Carson’s on the 40 man already. That brings another lefty into the pen as well.
