Thanks for the encouragement guys - those of us in Binghamton (note, no 'p') truly appreciate it (full sarcasm mode and rolling of the eyes in effect here).

So, to tick off some responses here -

Matt, you admitted that you wished the Mets Double A club went to Ottawa so clearly you're biased and a bit disappointed that the Mets didn't go to that (failed) Canadian market. That's okay though, Ottawa couldn't even support a AAA club, no way would they have supported AA (they couldn't even find a local person that had any interest in owning the team hence the reason that rumor fell through)

Metsie - yes, IBM did take many jobs from the area, but those jobs went to North Carolina not 'downstate' (trust me on this one - I was on the board of trustees and Deputy Mayor for the municipality that IBM existed in at the time it happened). Binghamton University - once known as SUNY Binghamton - has a higher enrollment now than it did in the days of IBM. BU has, in fact, not lost students it has gained them - IBM's departure has had no effect on the University.

Fonzie - where would you have liked the B-Mets to go? Where within the Eastern League footprint is there currently an adequate market to house the Mets Double A club that may draw better than Binghamton that isn't already affiliated with another Major League club?

Now, here's a question for all that think Binghamton is not well supported - what is your 'benchmark' for support? Do the B-Mets need to draw over 200,000 to be successful? Please remember, when looking at this years numbers, that the beginning of the season was ruined atty wise because of the now erroneous reports of the team leaving making them a lame duck entity (they're not leaving - get over it). Also, what no one has mentioned in the posts above is this - the B-Mets pay ONE DOLLAR in rent at NYSEG Stadium. The rent in Ottawa was going to be $250,000 a season. I'm not good with money, but it sounds to me like the deal in Bingo is a pretty good one yeah? Plus, travel time from Bingo to Flushing - three hours. Travel time from Ottawa - five hours plus and a border in between (the Mets were never going to New Britain or Trenton contrary to popular blogging opinions). How would the Mets leaving Binghamton have benefited them? Please, enlighten me. If we're going to chastise a community for perceived lack of support at least tell the entire story, don't just pick and choose the facts that support a biased response.

I'm not sorry to the areas (New Britain, Trenton, Ottawa) that were hoping the Mets Double A club was coming their way. The Mets and Binghamton are a reality for the next four seasons - that's just the way it is folks.

So would I man. I was hoping for Ottawa because it's two hours from me. Right now, the only option I have is watching Brooklyn when they visit Burlington, VT, which I did last week. Pretty dumpy ballpark and they dont draw well - they rank about mid-pack in the NYP league. My brother lives near The Joe in Troy, which is supposedly a gorgeous park. They draw great numbers. I would love to see Savanah move somewhere in upstate NY. Plattsburgh, NY is getting bigger all the time - and I'd love to see them get a team. Or Montreal, which I think will certainly happen once they build a downtown park. But I know they want no part of anything MLB related with Selig's stench on it.

The Hickory park is great. It's the Rangers so they are actually decent and over time with different organizations a lot of good players have came through. It's clean, has great views all around, the food is good and it's cheap. What more can you ask for a park that's 30 minutes away?

I would love to have a real MiL club with a nice park convenient to me.

I am about 45 minutes or so from Trenton, but that is Yankees. And trenton is not nice. There is also a park in Wilmington Deleware, but just as far.

Camden has a neat little park right on the waterfront. nasty area, but cool place. That is an indy league team. Right across the river from CBP pretty much.

I think it varies in NC especially though because there are few ties to the major league teams that are associated. The Charlotte games do decently well but that is AAA. Winston Salem and Greensboro used to do well and I haven't been to the new downtown stadium that is in Greensboro I believe. I love going to the one in Hickory but that's because I can sit where ever the heck I want so... LOL.
