Why doesnt he go down to AAA ball and relax and relearn how to hit. Personally Id cut him and eat the money. Whats the difference as you have to pay no matter if he hits 150 or hes off the team. Makes no sense to me to keep him.

Amazin, you mean you haven’t heard? .160 hitters is the new market inefficiency. Alderson is playing this like a genius. All the other GMs are gonna be banging down the doors for Jason Bay come November. Great strategy by our GM to say Bay isn’t going anywhere. The dude is a freaking genius!

I think the easiest solution is to have Jason become a pitcher. Let him spend the rest of the season learning from the coaches, then play winter ball. That way in spring training of 2013 he would be looked upon as a good hitting pitcher doing no less than mopup work in the bullpen.

Maniac – I think we need to remember that most of what Sandy says is reversed within a week or two anyway.
Harvey was never going to be promoted to the MLB this year, yet here he is.
We were going to be Buyers but left the mall.

If I had to guess at Sandy’s motives here I would say he is going to take one more shot at a Waiver Wire deal and barring that then cut him.

Not that it really makes a difference because by the time anything happens there is no real reason to trade him as Rosters will expand to 40 and the roster spot he takes up won’t be so important anymore.

Basically I don’t care what Sandy does with Bay anymore. From now on he Owns Bay and what he does or doesn’t do from now on!
It goes on his record.

Look, all I’m saying is I wouldn’t be so quick to take it for granted that Bay will be on this team next season.

This isn’t about defending or not defending SA. All GMs make this kind of statement – don’t care if they’re a lawyer or not. No GM is going to tell the media what their plans for the team going forward until those plans are set in stone. And I don’t think all is set in stone yet for this team yet next season – do you?

Since SA cut both Perez and Castillo in ST on the final year of their contract, it won’t be an unheard of precedent for him to do so with Bay next season as well. No sense going round and round about this right now b/c none of us know. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I’ll be all over him like white on rice if Bay is on this team next year.

I can’t stand Bay, but it makes sense to keep him on the roster, and have him ride the bench indefinitely. For one, he can’t possibly fail any worse as a bench player or platoon guy. And as a bench player, he’s not blocking anyone. Worst case, he continues to suck, and stays on the bench. Best case, he hits a little bit better once he’s removed from being an everyday player.

Our 2012 season is over. I agree that Bay was a big contributer to our failures. But at this point, it’s over. Cutting him now serves no purpose except to appease the fans. Alderson’s job is to be the adult in the room, and not do everything just because fans are screaming for it. That’s what Omar did, and it didn’t work.

And for those advocating we go out and buy all sorts of high priced free agent stars, when does that ever work? Did it work for the Marlins this past year? We need to go through rebuilding years. Yes, years. It usually doesn’t happen over night.

As long as we keep moving in the right direction, I’m ok with the slow going. I can be patient, even if that means another mediocre year in 2013.

The possibility Capuano would be back, and Jose Reyes, that we were buyers, that we wouldn’t punt in 2012. SRT I say this all the time in the shoutbox. This is an example of SA’s terrific politicing. He said nothing except for at this moment, right now, this very second, I am not releasing Bay. That is all he said which means nothing. He could be released at the end of the year or not. I personally do not care as long as he isn’t marched out there everyday batting 5th while hitting .150. At the very least his option should not be allowed to vest.

and no way do I take this to mean he will be around next year. Not surprising with the team not in the playoff hunt, and short of RH OFs already, that they are giving him the rest of this year. Like most guys with his contract status get.

pretty sure that if they cut him now, they have to pay him his full contract. So that means coming up with another 19mill or so right now, which has to be an issue.

so, nothing really to lose keeping him (other than a lot of whining on the internet). That way, they try everything to trade him, and if not, they get a free look in ST to see if he somehow found the fountain of youth (A Roids stash?) and regains some of his skills. If so, he might get a shot as a platoon guy next year. if not, he gets released during ST, which IMO is the most likely scenario.

Why is Bay hitting 5th….if we have to suffer bat him 7th or 8th. Also has Sandy made any trades that matter…Zack won’t be ready to sometime next year. Sandy isn’t capable of making a real trade and until proves different were going no where.

Sandy doesn’t want to eat the money then anything Bay doesn’t do from here on out goes on Sandy’s record!

He wants him then he should get credit for him!
