Pete - Thanks so much for the round-up. Your report is music to our ears. My firm belief is that we will be rewarded for our patience, which is a trait that was non-existent in the Minaya era. Not to disparage Omar completely, because he has an excellent eye for talent.

While it may take a couple of years, the Mets may resemble the pitching-rich organization upon which it's best reputation and successes were built.

The glass is half-full and rising.

-Mateo is a monster. Looks like a legit future top 10 prospect in baseball. Any predictions on his ETA to the show?

Thumbs up Pete! Sounds like an interesting piece playing both players numbers - in St. Lucie and Binghamton - off of each other and having Glenn throw some insight in as well! (course, we gotta get Kotalek some numbers in Bingo, but once that Francisco guy is gone I'm sure they will ;-) ).

Well Tim my friend, you certainly do come up with some good questions for a lazy Saturday morning, only problem is I haven't had my coffee yet, but let me take a stab at this. Remember this is just me speculating the best I can, I really don't know squat about these guys internal make-up, or where they will top out, or how long it will take for them to get there. Everybody on Binghamton that I have talked to at Bingo this year have pretty much agreed that the jump from high-A to AA is a very big one as far as the competition goes, as opposed to say AA to AAA, which is not such a big jump.

I talked to Rosario on Tuesday, but it was mostly me giving him a pep-talk, I didn't ask him what made his command fly out the window when he got to the Eastern League. But it did, and there could be a bunch of reasons why. Lack of control has not been typical for Rosario at any other time in his career, so I would assume he will come back to earth at some point and start to get hitters out again.

Now Kolarek is a whole nother story. He has a very advanced arsenal and should translate very well to the Eastern League (but who really knows?). In an interview I did with Kolarek last winter he told me his too main pitches are his very good four-seamer, and his change-up, which is probably his best pitch. It his mastery of the change that will give Kolarek the ability to succeed at each level he climbs. The pitch by his own description:

"I would say my change-up is my second best pitch because I feel comfortable throwing it in just about any count or any situation. When I throw a real good one it will have some tailing movement into a lefty or away from a righty."

Then there was his determination to develop his two-seamer this year and to use his slider more effectively.

"I feel like I made a lot of progress with my slider last year and I want to continue to build off of that. I would mainly use it when I was ahead in the count and was trying to get a strike out or ground ball, but I really want to get to the point this year where I can use my slider when I’m behind in the count in a typical fastball situation."

It seems like Kolarek has more tools to work with and they might play better in AA, we'll see.
