And you make it sound like they don’t need to fix the bullpen for next year anyway?

But first off what you suggest is hardly a buy deal but even if thats what it was we still need Bullpen help right?
So why are we no longer looking to fix the pen?
So this time next year when they suck and take us out of the Wildcard race again you can say It’s ok we are on a 4 year plan?
How many year are we having this 4 year plan? 20 years?

You guys keep saying we are rebuilding for the long term…When does this long term happen?
If you don’t work today to make the team better then thats one more day added to your 4 year plan!

Shit or get off the pot already!
No one expects Sandy to get us in the playoffs this year but we DO expect him to improve the team EVERY year not just one where the blue bird of happiness craps on his head and makes him one player away!

This team was not a shambles….thats just revisionist history under the guise of Excuse making for Sandy.

But lets just for a second say it was…What has he done to make it better?

PoDesta said just last week that they didn’t really mess with the MiL development personnel they merely asked them to focus on a few different things like OBP which has led to guys being too passive in ABs vs a pitcher like Zimmerman who throws 70% first pitch strike fastballs!
That all our guys took all day and put themselves into a hole!

I mean look at who he went after to fix the bullpen!

If we were buyers a week ago this Wilpon is broke excuse for sandy isn’t going to fly!
He was prepared to pay cash and take on salary and you don’t do that if the Owner is broke even if you win all those games we just lost!

Your right about Ike, he’s no longer untouchable long term. However, I do think he’ll get the entire 2013 season to provide he still has what it takes.

I’m not sure this front office has made any promises other than a commitment to developing the farm system. Alderson took over a team in total shambles. It takes time to get through these things. You can’t just launch everyone that “sucks” if you can’t afford to replace them with better players. If the ownership group had the funds necessary to eat contracts things might be different, but right now they don’t and we’re stuck with this.

Three questions:
1) Have you stopped to think why it is Sandy hasn’t done anything? Could it be the fact that the Wilpons can’t afford to take on more payroll or possibly the fact that the Mets don’t have many players with trade value other than their pitching prospects? I think you’ll find the Wilpons are much more to blame than Alderson…

2) Would you honestly want Hanley Ramirez on your baseball team? There is a reason Miami basically gave him away… His numbers are declining and he had a horrible attitude! You get what you pay for. If Ramirez was such a great addition team’s would have been stumbling over one another to trump the Dodgers offer, but they weren’t were they?

3) Do you have any idea the bounty Arizona is looking for for Upton? As someone in this thread mentioned… It’d take Wheeler, Familia and MORE! I’m not signing up for a trade like that regardless of who our GM is. That’s mortgaging the future for the present at its finest…

No once Bay and Santana are off the books he will start signing them all because the price of gas running the Buffal Shuttle once a week will not be cost effective to run for one player at a time and he will get himself a group rate by filling it.

Murph and Duda have both played well at first base. Duda will be splitting time there in Buffalo. Ike has power and punishes pitchers when they make mistakes. He is a terrible batsman. With an 0 2 count his batting average is .050. RALLY KILLER! Ike is better than the year he is having. He is not so good as we had thought in May of 2011. He is becoming Kingman. Trade him.

Robert, you’re just another Sandy apologist. At this point, I would rather have Omar Minaya back as GM than this clown who has done NOTHING to improve the team. The Dodgers practically got Ramirez for free! The DBacks are holding a big “for sale” sign over Justin Upton’s head. But Sandy doesn’t care about this team. He just sits there in his office all day laughing all the way to the bank to cash a paycheck that he has yet to earn! Will I ever see the Mets win a title in my lifetime? With this ownership and FO, I’m not holding my breath.

The Coupons… err… the Wilpons are to blame too. They’ve probably had the FO handcuffed for the past couple of years with their “financial issues.” If they’re as broke as they say they are, they should SELL THE TEAM ALREADY!!! I would love nothing more than to Fred and Jeff Wilpon go by the way of Frank McCourt and stay away from Flushing!
I bet LA will be great again with Magic Johnson in charge.

I still cannot rationalize a poor second half as a precursor to a positive future. I have to agree with some that the Mets current plan is really no plan for the future. The Mets have play poorly for the past 3 seasons and it looks like this will be the 4th. I love my Mets, but this is getting to be absurd! I realize there maybe financial issues, but I am sick of the excuses and the wait til next year. I have been waiting for next year since 2000, and so many years before that (86 excluded). Is there a chance we can see a 10 to 15 year stretch that yields some consistent winning? I am just tired of the false promises, the lies, the deception, and the lack of urgency. The Mets as an organization should really be tired of being known as “little brother”, or “second banana” in this town.

Overall Robert, agree with you on most things. However, I don’t consider Ike to be untouchable. He has a rally killing hole in his swing that has yet to be addressed. We be better off now moving Murph to first base and trading Ike to see what we could get.

Also, you wrote that getting rid of Santana and Bay will save us 40 million dollars. Firstly, we might be able to dump Santana on another team. With Bay we would have to pick up the majority of his contract.

But even if we could dump the 40 mil in contracts what makes you think that the Wilpons would reinvest in the team. All us Mets fans waited for years for last year’s big contracts to leave the team – Castillo, Perez, Reyes, F-Rod. We cut 50 million form the team. Did the Wilpons reinvest any of that money back into the team?

With a 40 million windfall, the team would give Wright a healthy raise and sit on the rest of their money while claiming to re-build. How do I know? We that’s what they have been doing already.

The bloated contracts of Bay and Santana represent FORTY million dollars that the organization will be able to reinvest in its roster. That’s close to half the teams payroll right now, that’s not BS.

Folks need to get over this we’re a big market ball club stuff. It doesn’t matter what city you call home if your ownership group can’t afford to cut big checks. And as far as revenue goes, the Mets haven exactly been filling he stadium every night. Even if they were, it’s unlikely the majority of that money goes back to the on field talent. It goes to paying a dozen different debts all over the place. Be mad at ownership, not th front office that has to tip toe through the tulips because of their crumby financial decisions.

I’m writing about the situation we’re in, your arguing about the situation you want us to be in.

First and foremost, it’s insight not inside…

Secondly, to quote myself: “I want this front office to know, unequivocally, that the roster they have now won’t land the organization in the playoffs anytime soon.”

People are holding Alderson in comparison to a ghost… Yes, Omar made moves. However the ownership situation isn’t even remotely similar right now. Also, the part everyone conveniently forgets now, the team didn’t win anything with him at the helm.

I want this group to fail so the organization can move on. Should that take a total collapse? Of course not, but with the sometimes too measured approach of the guy you apparently think I worship, that might be the case.
