AS A LONG ESTABLISHED FAN, A MY MONIKER SUGGESTS, I DRAW UPON A VAST RECOLLECTION OF ODDS & ENDS FROM WHICH TO DRAW CONCLUSIONS WHENEVER I FIND MYSELF STUMPED AS TO A LOGICAL CAUSE FOR NONSENSICAL MET DECISIONS

I’VE LONG EXCEPTED THERE HAVE BEEN FAR TOO MANY GAMES IN MY 50+ YR PAST TO RECOLLECT “IN-GAME” OCCURANCES AS WELL AS MOST OF MANY OF U; I CERTAINLY DO PRIDE MYSELF ON HAVING A VAST RECOLLECTIVE FILE OF ALL THINGS WILPON DATING FAR BACK TO FRED’S DAYS AS A 1%er.

SHORTLY AFTER THE DOUBLEDAY BUYOUT DURING ONE OF JEFF’S INNAUGRAL INTERVIEWS AS THE NEWLY MINTED C.O.O. JEFF ELUDED YTO HIS CONCERN THAT TYHE TEAM AS THEN CONSTITUTED WAS TOO “SOFT” IN TREATING THE SLIGHTEST OF INJURIES WITH D/L STINTS HE BELIEVED WERE UNNECESSARY. AND HE VOWED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE; JUST AS HE APPOINTED HIMSELF TO HEAD UP THE MEDICAL -TRAINING STAFF INVESTIGATION AS TO WHY THE D/L WASN’T PROPERLY BEING ACTIVATED TO MAINTAIN A VIABLE, CAPABLE ROSTER.

ALWAYS SOUNDED TO ME A BIT LIKE APPOINTING THE WEASEL TO INSPECT THE HENHOUSE SECURITY.

DESPITE WILPON VOWS OF NON-INTERFERENCE/MEDDLING THE FACT THAT THE SAME ISSUES SPAN ILLOGICALLY THROUGH 3 GM REGIMES PHILLIPS’, MINAYA’S, ALDERSON’S THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT ROOT CAUSE OF INEPTITUDE UNDERMINING LOGICAL DECISIONS BY PRACTICAL PROFESSIONALS..

I WONDER WHO?

SUGGESTION, COULD BE THE SAME INDIVIDUAL WHO TOOK 5 YRS TO STUDY RECOMMENDED DESIGNS TO REPLACE SHEA VISITING MUTTITUDENOUS NEW VENUES FROM WHICH TO DRAW UPON(STEAL) & STILL AFTER SUPPOSEDLY FINISHING IT TO HIS GREATEST SATISFACTION IN 2009, HAS LAUNCED A MAJOR ALTERATION IN EACH YEAR SINCE.
CAN ANYONE NAME ANOTHER C.O.O. OF A MULTIMILLION DOLLAR ENTERPRISE WITH ONLY AN ASSOCIATES DEGREE FROM A COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND NO FIRST HAND INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE FROM ACTUALLY PARTICIPATING AS A PROFESSIONAL, UNPROVEN CLAIMS OF BEING A MONTREAL FARM CATCHER NOT WITHSTANDING?

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I think they downplayed the severity of the injury or didn’t bother to check it out because they just listened to Johan. The way that ankle buckled on that original play it had to be battered and bruised and hard to run on. Gee or no Gee operation, Johan should have been DLed the day after that July 6 game. If he had been he might be pitching effectively now. Case closed.

I think the ‘ankle injury’ is more a convenient excuse to give the shoulder/arm some apparently much needed rest. Listening to Johan’s interview yesterday, I don’t believe the ankle is really that big of a deal.

Agreed. Tom T your personal story makes you hyper aware. I mostly am troubled by the inconsistancy of overusing Santana. The DL will allow Johan to rest his arm, this could have happened BEFORE he crashed and burned.

Terry Collins is one of the most over cautious managers you’ll ever see. Unless Johan was limping around the clubhouse, which doesn’t seem to be the case, there’s no way for him to know just how much Johan’s ankle is bothering him. And since Johan said the ankle is not an issue and wasn’t limping around this is just a case of 2nd guessing Collins. There are many things to 2nd guess Collins for. This isn’t one of them. Santana is still recovering from an injury that no other pitcher has ever fully recovered from. This bump in the road was just as likely to happen with or without his ankle injury.

Lute, have you ever pitched in a serious baseball league or managed a team? I don’t think so because if you did you wouldn’t have made such an silly comment. This isn’t about showing how much testosterone you have. I’m all for pitchers who don’t want to be wimps but this Santana deal wasn’t a normal situation. Santana should have been on the DL five minutes after that injury happened.

Totally agree with you. They knew very well, especially Collins and Santana what the consequences could be. They both ignored it knowing full well that it could undo over a year worth of rehab on that shoulder and all the progress he had made up to that point. We got the no-hitter, but we lost an ace in the process.

I’m sorry Jason, in this case I don’t agree. They’ve been handling Johan like a delicate flower all year, as they should, and you don’t let the pitcher dictate something like this. They know Johan is always going to want the ball and I commend him for being a gamer. But this isn’t a normal situation. If they were worried about him throwing too many pitches during the no-hitter, they should have been even more worried about him pitching with a bad ankle. Baseball history is filled with great pitchers whose careers faded or ended because they pitched with leg injuries, Dizzy Dean being one that comes to mind immediately. They should have stripped the ball out of Johan’s hands and DL;ed him right after that game. No excuses.

The GM and manager deferred to their star pitcher. He said he could take the ball and he did. Give some blame to all, but mostly Johan for putting himself and his team at a disadvantage. If your all-star pitcher says he can go, you hand him the ball.
