After barely missing out on winning Player of the Month for the month of May, Dickey once again put up great numbers this month and has earned the honors for the month of June. He had a 5-0 record with a 0.93 earned run average. He had great control of his knuckleball this month, as he kept his walks down and his strikeouts high. He threw back-to-back 1-hit complete game shutouts against the Tampa Bay Rays and against the Baltimore Orioles. His lone bad start came against the New York Yankees where he gave up 5 earned runs but received a no decision.

R.A. Dickey became the fifth pitcher in franchise history to win 10 straight decisions. The last Mets pitcher to accomplish that feat was Johan Santana, who won 10 straight from July 9, 2008-April 6, 2009. The others are Tom Seaver (16 wins from 1969-1970), Dwight Gooden (14 wins in 1985) and Terry Leach (10 in 1987).

Dickey leads the majors with 12 wins, is third in the majors with a 2.15 ERA and is second in the NL and third in the majors with 116 strikeouts. He is already being mentioned as a possible Cy Young candidate, and might be starting this year’s All Star Game. He truly deserves this month’s honor!

  • No argument from me on this selection. Other than the one Yankee game, RA has been flat out dominant.
He’s currently the ‘feel good’ story of the season so far. Since he’s been selected anyway, would like to see him get the nod for the NL AS starter.

    • If Dickey doesn’t get to start the All Star Game, I’d be very surprised. The only problem is that he is a knuckleballer, and the catcher isn’t really used to catching the knuckleball. I have to give Thole and Nickeas a lot of credit. It takes a LOT of skill and hard work to be able to get used to catching a knuckleball. They have done a pretty good job working with Dickey and catching him. I don’t think either of them get enough credit for that.

      • Well I consider seeing Dickey Pitch to Posey a good thing….
It might get some people off Thole’s defensive back!

Maybe if they see just how hard it is to catch a Knuckler they will understand Thole could never win and look like a great defensive catcher!

He’s ok nothing great nothing horrible….

        • Exactly. It is extremely hard to catch a knuckleball, especially one like Dickey’s that is really dancing all over the plate. Unfortunately Thole and Nickeas do not get much credit for doing as well as they have catching Dickey.

  • Yep… No doubt about it… He may very well be the NL player of the Month

    • Nope – I heard he got beat out by Pablo Sandoval after Giant fans $$$stuffed the commissioner’s $$$suggestion box. :)

  • If we are intending to have a Player of the first half then Dickey wins that hands down with Wright a very near second!

And thats really saying something with the numbers Wright has put together so far this season!
But Dickey has just been as good as you could expect from any starting pitcher and the true reason we are where we are today!

Perfect ending here is a World Series with Dickey getting the Cy Young and Wright winning MVP!

  • Congrats to R.A. He had a RIDICULOUS month of June.

  • Hey Tyler at least this week you didn’t get any arguments! LOL

    • You mean this month, as Player of the Week isn’t up yet haha. It’s kind of hard to argue with the decision when the NL even named him pitcher of the month. It was a great month for Dickey, and he truly deserved the honor. Hopefully he keeps up his great first half during the second half. If he does, then I have absolutely no doubt he’ll win the Cy Young this year.

      • LOL Hell you even got an argument over what days constituted a week last time out!

Any port in a storm at the complaint department!

When you name ramirez player of the week then I’ll start to bitch at you! LOL
        Unless he really deserves it!

        • Yeah. Honestly I love when they disagree with another very deserving player. It can make for some good baseball conversation. Obviously we’re not all going to agree on every selection I make, I wouldn’t expect everyone to always agree. That’s the great thing of being fans, we get to disagree. If we all agreed on every single thing, there’d be nothing to really talk about.

  • Congrats to RA Dickey. What a year so far for him. Here’s hoping the next 3 months are as dominating as the last 3 were. He is so much fun to watch.
