The lost two starters in July. They lost one in April. They were not anything special to begin with. During the off season the owners had no idea whether they would even have a pot to piss in. Still, the trade junkies crawl out of the woodwork on cue at the end of July. I don’t really want to watch them lost 50 games from here on out. Their future was not this year. This year was designed to be a holding pattern. The fact that they played well for a good bit of it gummed up the works. Unloading people for no good reason is Bad Baseball Business 101. If there are no decent minor leaguers to be had, then you don’t trade. The only persons on this team I would trade for a box of crackerjacks are Bay and Torres.

they got a replacement OF that is putting up basically the same numbers, for 1/10th the cost. And just freed up the money to get someone like Bourne next year to replace vicky.

Plus a solid catching prospect? SOmething I thought did not exist?

You’re actually saying the team was over achieving right? Which would then mean everything from this point on was inevitable anyway?

Tell me what could he have done to turn July around? Get a starting pitcher? Get some offense? Get more than 1 bullpen arm?

If your team is over achieving, why go out and give up your young talent just to get 1 piece that might not even make a difference? Since getting a rental was out of the question…

Of course jessup, the #1 kool aide drinker is expalining what people who use their brain want and need. Of course jessup is WRONG. Met fans with a brain want the GM to get off his butt and either rebuild or try to contend. Only those who have lost their brain power are satisfued with the mediocrity of the team and the failure of the GM to do any thing. Don’t speak for us with a brain jessup. It only makes you look even more without brain power then your other posts do.

No, i don’t think we were getting upton anyways, to me, he was far fetch as hell to the GM anyways, but at least show the players who overachieve to make him look good some love by acquiring help to make them see he does care.. He’s on pace to have his 8th consecutive losing season as a GM and you somehow STILL look for ways and excuses to defend him… Very sad… Very, Very sad…

B) Weren’t you the one who said you wouldn’t trade Familia for Upton? If you can’t give up Familia for Upton, then you don’t get Upton because it’d take better prospects than Upton to get him. So yes, you are trying to turn water into wine. You want a Mike Piazza or Johan trade to fall into our laps and make everything better.

Same people defending sandy alderson are the ones who don’t wanna be called sandy lovers…. Then why on earth would anybody else defend this man????? SMH…
I don’t think i have heard ANYONE in here saying go get a justin upton for C prospects… i mean, the lies to cover up the ineptitude of the GM it’s just asinine… I feel sorry for some real mets fans who gotta put up with them…

Rich – What I mean is, nobody wants the Mets to make just any trade. They want the Mets to find true impact players but they don’t wanna give anything up for them.

If the Mets went out today and got a low cost releiver, the same people would be angry. They want a big splash and they want it for free. You can’t make that group happy no matter what.

For the 800 billionth time nobody is saying trade Wright, Santana or Dickey, nobody is saying the Mets should get an impact player for nothing…although other teams like the Braves were able to get the kind of help the Mets can use for practically nothing:

It’s about TRYING TO WIN. And you try to win every year that you can because that’s what sports is all about, especially in New York and you can do that without giving up the farm.
But we say that a hundred times a day…improving without giving up the farm..but people like jessep & donal who are staunch Sandy lovers ahead of Mets fans ..and now YOU..always come back with “well you can’t trade the farm” or “well what do want them to do? trade Santana & Wright”

You people ALWAYS say that even though you know that’s not what we mean. And you will come back with that again. Teams with lesser farm systems are making moves.

Why the defense of a GM who does nothing is beyond me. It just goes to show the lack of aggressiveness and the general passivity that a segment of the fan base – the ones who have no minds of their own and just live and die on everything this less than mediocre GM says or does.

It’s as if the Mets, in the next 2 months, are guaranteed NOT to have any more winning streaks like they did in the first half. It’s like that Santana & Dickey will both NOT be able to have long periods of pitching well again. It’s like Duda or Kirk can’t come up again in September and make an impact – only IF the Mets are afforded a chance to compete.

There is a segment of the fan base who seems to think this way – the ones who are LESS knowledgable about competition and more familiar with looking at boxscores and living and dying with whatever the GM says or does.

It’s really just like a cult, like the Heaven’s Gate cult led by Marshall Applewhite:

whatever that’s supposed to mean. The Mets don’t want to be dumb like the Giants and trade their top prospects for someone that isn’t going to make a big difference.

Make a move seems good, but if only win 5 more games and miss the WC by 2 games, is loosing any one or more of Harvey, Fulmer, Jordy, Wheeler, Familia worth it?

While Kazmir wound up being crap he had 4 or 5 good years. We gave him up for Zambano (i think) and still lost. The following years would have been a lot better if we kept Kazmir

Not sure what you mean by ‘Are you listening Sandy?’. What do you want Sandy do – trade Santana, Dickey and Wright?

Mets and Phillies are in completely different scenarios. Phillies have well over $100m tied up next year with Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Rollins, Howard and Utley. They are trimming their expected FAs for mid-tier prospects. Only Hairston fits into that category for us – and I would think he’s better to keep so the Mets finish strong and help builds a winning attitude. No one wants Bay, pretty much everyone else will be competing for a spot next year or can be packaged in the off season for a Willingham-type player

The Phils have a TON of money locked up in just 7 players next year. A TON.

I still think they are trying to deal Lee. He’s the most logical to deal, they are running out of time to make this core a winner once again
