Petey, I really must disagree on your placement of Rafael Montero. He's way too low on the top 10. IMO, he's the best prospect we have after Wheeler & Fulmer without a doubt. How come Rainy Lara hasn't gotten an honorable mention as well? He's doing just as good as Mateo right now.

You're right Willis. DeGrom gets overlooked because we have a lot of arms with great upside but he's a name that should get some more recognition. He's still at Savannah because he missed an entire year and I could see him at Bingo at the break next year as long as he continues his brilliant pitching. The Defense has also hosed Tapia as well. They are not a good defensive team.

Jeurys Familia is one big question mark. He lacks command. Jeurys is good one day, but bad the next. He may turn out to be a great pitcher but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. In his last ten starts, he's had four horrendous outings. Hold the praise for him until more evidence is in.

Jason DeGrom deserves to be mentioned here. He throws a hard sinking fastball (been clocked at 97 in as late as the 6th inning), has killer numbers for Savannah, and consistently gets hosed by his defense. He's old for his league (24) but is at times utterly dominant. I can see him getting to Binghamton by the middle of next season and then be in the mix come 2014.

It's a tough top 10 to crack, but he's in this conversation.

Great list - both good choices by you and also it's a nice bunch of prospects for the Mets. A list of hitters would be much more depressing :)

Ummmm....yes. I have. And your point is? Recently at St. Lucie the "Rocket" has a whopping 52 strikeouts in 33 innings. Not bad, even if it is A-Ball, but did you notice his ERA or earned runs given up? He has an ERA of 4.09 and has surrendered 15 earned runs in those 33 innings. Not that great. He's also been pitching short one and two inning stints in relief, much easier to dial up your fastball in that situation. When Leathersich is made a starter and shows the kind of success these other guys have had as starters, maybe he will be in this conversation.

I know Warthen thinnks Mejia is a relief pitcher, because he puts so much effort into every pitch. Warthen thinks he is primed ot hurt himself if he throws major innings. I don't agree with Warthen much, but I see Mejia really straining when he throws his pitches. So maybe Warthen is on to omething, and maybe the top brass are listening. Of course, starting him for a year and letting him run up mpressive numbers could make him a valuable trade chip: proving that he is a healthy and talented prospect.
