Injuries aside, tt will stay like that until the 21st when the Mets have a big decision to make. Harvey will be called up (if he pitches well tonight) and the Mets will send one of the OF down.

They have to answer three questions.

1) Is Valdespin capable of playing CF regularly at the MLB level
2) Are they willing to play Hairston in CF vs. RHP
3) Are they willing to sit Bay regularly in favor of the LH OF when vs. RHP

To me the answer to all three questions have to be YES and Kirk needs to be sent down and when Baxter returns, Torres needs to be released...

They need a 12 man pen at this point.

Maybe the injury to Duda allows this to happen, but Valdy needs to play much more often and against both righties and lefties. Torres continues to UN-impress me, so give Valdy CF starts multiple times a week.

you won't see those alignments. Assuming they move back to a normal 7 man pen/5 man bench, they won't have those 3 bench OFs, unless they cut Turner too, and go with 3 OFs (as per above) and just Cedeno and BU catcher in addition.

I am not thinking they are planning to keep a 6 man bench, but it certainly does give a lot more flexibility!

Given that the Braves are out of the market for a SS and Tejada and Cedeno have proven healthy, I think it is reasonable for the Mets to send down the little used Quintanilla instead of the underused and productive Valdespin.

vs. LHP Bay, Torres, Hairston
vs. RHP Kirk, Valdespin, Duda ---->

Until Duda returns from injury, I'm afraid to say that Jason Bay is unfortunately the next best option to play vs. RHP as even he is better than Hairston and Torres vs. RHP. Also it is imperative that the Mets use Valdespin in CF, not LF/RF since he has the potential to be a plus plus fielder whereas Kirk is average at best.

This has nothing to do with Jason Bay being good or worthy of playing everyday, but a reflection of how poorly the other OF have done. As terrible as Bay has been, he's right now the 4th best OF against RHP and the 2nd/3rd best against LHP on this team...
