I was not in favor of folding up the tent but if your going to do that and move on then don’t just pack the camels to leave next year get on and ride them now!

He says he is rebuilding yet every move seems to be a tear down and hope by playing the crap that cost you the season in the first place you might be able to sell your crap on someone.

There is no way in hell Bay or Torres is going to make anyone want them in 3-4 days…
Cut them, Trade them for cash, have them wash his car on weekends but get them off the roster and call up whatever kid you think is going to make the roster next year and play them!

Whatever they are going to learn in AAA can be learned in the MLB and when it isn’t costing you a playoffs there is no need to make sure he won’t struggle here before you bring him up.

100% agree with this. We’ll never know if these guys are everyday players if they keep this platoon fiasco going on. Platoons have their advantages, but how about we figure out exactly what we have with the young guys before we relegate them to part time players.

To each his own, but I’ll not be boycotting the Mets. I may not like all the moves the FO makes, I certainly don’t like watching them lose, but bad NY Met baseball is better than none. The winters are just too long without baseball.

Well, I say this, MMO Brethren, while I won’t be paying to see another game at Citi for some time, I would encourage those of you who can’t live without watching your beloved Metsies live at Citi to let Bay and the Mets know in as many passionate and creative ways as possible that you are all “mad as hell and not going to take it anymore” w/ regard to Bay’s presence in the clubhouse. Already this strategy seems to have paid off vis-a-vis Batista.

Ron Darling has some interesting comments on Bay last night after the game. Rather blunt, I’d say. For those that didn’t hear it he made an analogy to himself and retiring at 35 when he knew he was done. Said batters he should have been getting out with no problem were hitting line drives off him left and right. His mantra was always take the mound, give his team his best effort to win. When he knew at 35 he could no longer do it, he hung up his cleats for good. Went on to say that anyone who doesn’t is ”’well, a hypocrite’.

Baring him retiring, said he should be benched for good in favor of a Baxter and whoever-else-makes-sense platoon.

Bay has to be set for life. Is it really about the money? How depressing must it be to go out there night after night and continually fail like that? It’s sad and the boos will probably be loud once they return home, but he’s just done.

It’s really time for the Mets to step up and cut their losses on Bummer Bay. He is mentally shot. Moreover, he brings the team down with his feeble at-bats (K’s or ground outs to short).
Sometimes in baseball there is no explaination on why a players’ skills diminsh seemingly before his time. The Pirates pitcher, Steve Blass is an example. Once a premier pitcher who suffered “moving plate syndrome,” he soon he was out of the game.

If I’m Bay I take my ball and go home. I’ve made more money for multiple lifetimes and should just swallow my pride and return to the quiet live his native Canada offers. Raise your four kids and be at peace.

However, he should rue the day he rejected the Red Sox offer of $60 million and took 6 more big ones from the Mets. What started his spiral downhill was cavernous Citi Field, and if he remained in Boston, with the Green Monster staring at him daily, he would have not lost his confidence like he has.

Mets fans don’t need to see this guy one more trying day. Give his AB’s to Valdespin, Baxter, or George Foster. I don’t care, but it’s a travesty what he’s done in exchange for a boatload of cash. If he had an iota of integrity, he’d donate the rest of his salary to charity.

After all, isn’t that what the Mets have done for him in 2 1/2 years every 1st and 15th of the month?

I say cut Torres and Bay immediately. Torres and Bay are decent defenders with no arms. To say they are expendable is more or less true. Baxter is decent as an LF and will get better. Let him learn to hit; hew was doing fine at time of injury.

Happy to see an OF of Baxter Valdespin and Hairston for a while until Kirk gets right, or we find a bona fide CFer

After seeing the look on Bay’s face last night I think he has quit. He know’s he is lost. But neither Bay nor anyone else would walk away from the $20+ mil the Mets owe him, nice guy or not. They should ask him to take a demotion or DL him with lingering concussion symptoms. If he took the demotion maybe he could find his way (doubtful) but at least he could buy dinner for the Bisons every night with the $100,000 a game he makes.

In the meantime, why not give Valdespin the LF job? Both he and Bay have a similar # of AB’s with JV hitting .284 / 7 HR / 22 RBI in 102 AB’s vs. Bay and his .170 / 5 HR / 8 RBI in 106 AB’s. Jon Niese is hitting better for crying out loud (.194 with a .324 OBP)! While it is entirely possible that Valdespin’s weaknesses would be exposed with extended playing time we will never know if he doesn’t get the chance to play. And his CLEARLY a better hitter right now than Bay is. Isn’t the point of putting a lineup together to give your team the best chance of winning? If so, then continuing to run Bay out there runs very counter to that theory, doesn’t it? How many teams win with their LF and #6 hitter hitting .170 / .246 / .330? I would say ZERO.

Screw the whole lefty righty thing already.

If we are not playing for a playoff then we should be playing to get the kids we plan on relying on next season some experience and ABs.

Stop throwing Bay, Hairston and Torres in there. Start playing Valdespin (RF), Kirk (CF) and Duda (LF when he gets back).

If this FO is true to it’s word and is focused on rebuilding then start rebuiliding and play the kids.Make the trade for a RH power bat we are still going to need in 2013 without giving up Wheeler or Harvey and move on!
