Fonzie,

Did forget to add that few would be upset with Pagan still in center and Kirk in left during Bay's injury... and even after. We can also substitute Pagan for Torres in your composite figures with Kirk and find much better results.

Oh, and since Torres has often been acting like Crazy Horse sometime I can't tell the difference. :)

Joey D! What exactly did the front office do the last two years? It's not like he dismantled a winning team. They had been a major disappointment dating back to 2009. I won't even get into the team collapsing 2 straight years against inferior teams which was a sign for things to come.

I've been hearing the 2nd guessing now for a few weeks about trading away Crazy Horse who absolutely killed this team last year especially in CF and on the basepaths. There's no way they could've justified brining him back after the way he played last year. Lets take a look at CF production for the Mets this year vs Angel Pagan with the Giants.

With Kirk and Torres splitting time in CF they have both as a tandem outproduced Pagan this year. And as poorly as Torres has played CF compared to the way he's played it throughout his career he has still outperformed Pagan defensive ly in CF this year.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Andres Torres have combined for a 255 AVG 358 OB% 393 SLG%
 57 runs scored, 14 2B, 3 3B, 7 HR's 40, RBI's.

Angel Pagan has a 280 AVG, 328 OB% 399 SG% 41 runs scored, 15 2B, 5 3B, 5 HR's, 34 RBI's. Angel hit 250/281/478 in Apr, 375/422/462 in May, 245/302/306 in June and 213/255/298 in July. So other than May Angel Pagan has been horrible.

We have gotten 16 more Runs scored, 1 less double, 2 less triples, 2 more HR's and 6 more RBI's and as bad as Torres has looked he's hitting 310 with a 437 OB% and a 433 SLG% against LHP. We have not missed Crazy horse in the slightest bit. Plus he was a malcontent in the clubhouse as has been reported.

Again I'm not gonna keep explaining to you how dumb it would've been to keep K-Rod for 17 million even if we had Yankee money. 17.5 million for a guy who has been mediocre this season and even with his improvement over bad start no pitcher with a 3.71 ERA with a 1.48 WHIP is worth paying 17.5. I still would rather have FF, Rauch and Ramirez fro 11 million.

I would've liked to have kept Takahashi but that wasn't happening coming off 2010. Maybe if he was a free agent last season he would still be here but in case you haven't noticed he hasn't been all that great this year. He's given up a lot of big HR's in pressure spots and has been used mostly as a LH specialist. He's sporting a 4.37 ERA, and his groundball% has decreased with his flyball % increased which explains his HR rate on the rise. We would've benn better off with him last year but not this year.

Isringhausen is a pure 2nd guess. No one complained that he wasn't brought back over the offseason and he did miss the last month of the season with a herniated disc. He's pitched well but he's only thrown 3 innings. He would've helped but not one person here said a peep when we didn't resign here. Same with Capuano who's having the best year of his career.

You seem to forget we had all these guys and haven't finished over 500 since 2008. Enough is enough already. BTW since K-Rod was moved into the closers role his 2 save opportunities were typical K-Rod like. He gave Brewer fans a coronary. He has 4 losses and 4 blown saves. Yeah he'd fit right in with our bullpen.lol. :)

Hi Gorgeguy,

I was afraid of this happening because of what the front office did to the team the previous two years. Won't talk about Beltran/Wheeler but this year we still could have had a younger and more productive center fielder in Crazy Horse, a starter in Capuano (I said I thought he was awful last season but Sandy liked him) and three relievers in KRod, Takahashi and Issringhausen.

Forget that KRod was overpaid. The Mets would still be in better shape if they had him along with lets just say Takahashi and Pagan. But let us not forget - the Angels were making the big push this year and saw something in Issy that we didn't. Guess with all the deep bullpen strength acquired over the winter, Issy wasn't deemed necessary.

Always contended the best deals are often the one you don't make.

Hate to admit it but all the experts who have said the Mets just don't have it this year were right. I wanted to believe that they had transcended the lesspectations, but they really don't have it ... this year.

I won't lose complete faith, but I am in full agreement with whatever the F.O. is (isn't) doing. Bringing in Broxton wouldn't have changed anything the past 2 days. What could Street have done the last 2 games? There are just too many holes and not enough "soil" (players) to fill them. Hairston was good at points, but is he a strong option? No. He has a "holy" swing, much like Kirk and Lucas and Ike ... Nickeas ... he has no plate presence.

Still think they bring up Harvey and Fred Lewis, send down Kirk, & DFA Batista. Still wouldn't mind seeing a new right-handed-hitting catcher because there is nobody on the near horizon in the Mets' minors. They may end up being sellers which isn't a bad thing considering there are still a few holes in the minors (other than starters).

Since the batters still have the ability to put the Mets back in the game, I believe having two new decent arms in the pen would help stop the slide and get us back in the game.

But I don't think Brett Myers would be half that solution. If one looks at his pitching career, the numbers he's put up don't seem any better than those we got now. Yes, he might be having one of his best years now, but at 32 and considering his past track record, the Mets would be stuck with another high priced arm that wouldn't be earning his keep come next season.

It's not the ten million that would upset me, it would be the lack of production that at any price would not be worth it.

I don't know Houston's farm system well enough to know the quality of what they gave up. Reports indicate that it was lower tier in their system (which isn't really all that good...yet). Makes me wonder what we would've had to give up to get Myers. His option is a little scarier only because i'm not convinced we're into adding salary at this point.

As for Hamels and Greinke, I think it'll be good for us if they stayed put. That keeps their teams at the status quo, and doesn't improve say the Dodgers, or even worse the Braves. And since Phillies seem to not care about the years down the line, I too hope Hamels milks them for every single cent he can get.

Also, in regards to "Also the two bums have 5 BS in 7 Save Opportunities." Those two aren;t closers. Using saves to qualify non-colsers doesn't hold much water.

I'm quite aware of park factors. Very much aware. I'm surprised you're not aware of the quality of opponents between the two divisions and that park factors are squashed somewhat due to small sample sizes. Myers has pitched 17.2 innings at Minute Maid to a 3.57 ERA and 13 innings on the road to a 3.46 ERA. Seems like the park isn't really a factor, isn't it?

But since you want to bring up more advance stats, were you aware that Myers has a 4.24 FIP and Rauch has a 3.45 FIP and Ramirez has a 3.36? You were also aware the Mets play terrible defense, right? And the Astros play very good defense?

Good. I hope Philly pays a ton of money and long years for Hamels.

I have no problem with not trading for Myers. Not sure how much money was sent with him but he's got a 10MIL option for next year.
