Mets Recall Red Hot Jordany Valdespin, DFA Justin Hampson

Valdespin eluded the post game celebration as long as he could.

Valdespin’s walk-off single keys Bisons’ comeback last night.

The Mets have designated Justin Hampson for assignment and recalled Jordany Valdespin fron Triple-A Buffalo.

Valdespin, 24, has been on hot streak at Buffalo and is batting .333 in his last ten games with two homeruns, eight RBI and four stolen bases. For the season he has a .289 average in 136 at-bats.

Hampson, 32, appeared in three games and faced eight batters for New York. The left-hander allowed three hits and a walk in his first big league action since 2008. The left-hander was having a solid season at Triple-A Buffalo before he was called up. In 28 appearances he had a 2.13 ERA in 41.2 innings pitched with 42 strikeouts.

  • This means one of two things: (1) they believe Kirk will be able to play in a game before the all-star break or (2) Will Ohman (would be a great pickup btw) or another lefty like Edgin is being added to the 40 man roster.

This is the only way this move makes any sense to me…

    • I see it another way.
They’re not sure if Kirk can play and they’d rather roll the dice with one man short in the BP rather than one man short on the bench/in the field.

  • Glad to see Spin is back, hope he does better at the plate this go-around.

  • Unless Edgin is added to the 40, this makes no sense. Why DFA Hampson and let Batista keep a locker??? Strange move to say the least.

    • Right now i like having Batista around as a spot starter/insurance in that regard. I also think he’s more of a long man and not an 8th inning setup guy – i think he’s being misused that way.

      • He’s definitely better in a long role but TC “The Old Wise Master” uses him as a set up man so I’d rather keep another lefty in the pen. If they bring up Edgin the it won’t be a problem. I like having an explosive bat like Valdespin back.

      • You’re nuts Bayonne Batista sucks. Are you gonna report me for name calling? Have a nice Fourth, lol

        • Yeah i’m gonna email Cleanupshoutbox because my feelings were hurt and you said a bad word and cussed! Oooooooo!. And Cleanup still refuses to provide his identity. I mean if the person is supposed to be doing a “noble” thing by acting as big brother as if adults can’t regulate themselves then what’s the problem with revealing his/her identity. Maybe if this robot or whatever the hell it is reveals it’s identity i may respect ‘it’ more.

Anyway yes i’m gonna be grilling some Lamb and dogs, got the Tye-Dye covering up, Woodstock playing on the DVD and we’re gonna have a rockin’ BBQ after the game

  • They did the right thing in bringing Spin back up and with Spin around i see really no use for Cedeno other than being a righty. I’d rather they try and get a righty bat somewhere else, dump Cedeno and keep Spin.

Does anybody know if there is a right handed hitting catcher available who is decent with D and has a little pop?

    • Not sure they would ever be made available but as far as teams in trouble and possible sellers you have
Other than the Phillies having a fire sale and getting rid of Ruiz there really is no one…

Only other guy who might be available that has any pop is arencibia and he hits a shade over .200 with just 11 HRs…

Might as well stick with Thole if thats the only available option.

Which begs the question where were all the promising catchers in the draft and why didn’t we get any?

  • They’re gonna keep Cedeno because he’s the only one who can play decent defense at SS in case Tejada goes down.. We’re not gonna find a catcher. I would bring Rob Johnson back and DFA Nickeas. They should’ve never sent Johson back down in the 1st place. Catchers are hard to come by. I wanted them to sign Ryan Doumit who’s not any better than what they have defensively but can hit from both sides of the plate and play the OF and 1B.

    • Why would they send Tejada down? That kid will be manning SS for at least the next seven years the way I see it. Cedeno serves no role right now. DFA him and if we lose him we lose him. Cutting Hampson was dumb. He’ll get claimed in a heartbeat.

      • I think he meant if Tejada got hurt, lol

        • Oh, lol. I was gonna say that dont sound like the Fonzie I know, someone hacked his account. :-)

          • Maniac you hittin the suds already? lol.
