Mets Recall Pedro Beato From Triple-A Buffalo, Option Jeremy Hefner

The New York Mets today announced the club has recalled righthanded pitcher Pedro Beato from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League and optioned righthanded pitcher Jeremy Hefner to the Bisons. Beato, 25, will wear uniform #27 and will be available for Thursday night’s game vs. Philadelphia.

Beato was 3-2 with a 1.16 ERA (three earned runs/24.0 innings) in 16 games with Buffalo. The 6-4, 222-pounder allowed 15 hits, seven runs (three earned), with three walks and 18 strikeouts. He was with the Mets earlier this year from June 6-8, but did not appear in a game. Beato also had three scoreless appearances with St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League tossing 4.0 shutout innings. He began the year on the 15-Day Disabled List with right shoulder stiffness.

Beato was 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA (32 earned runs/67.0 innings) in 60 games for the Mets in 2011.

Hefner, 26, was 1-3 with a 5.64 ERA (19 earned runs/30.1 innings) in 11 games, three starts for the Mets.

  • Happy to see Beato back and just hope he is like the one we saw the first half of last year and not the second. If so, it’s a tip of the hat to Sandy’s people for noticing this one in the rule five draft.

  • Great move. Now DFA Batista and bring Elvin back up here so we can get somewhere. Dumb move for designating Hampson, but maybe it is to bring someone new to the fold (Fuentes?)

  • I’m not convinced Beato is the answer either. Still need to go out an acquire a BP arm, IMO.

  • Didn’t we need the lefty Hampson more than another right-hander? Especially when you consider Hampson could get both LH and RH hitters out. Bet he gets claimed tomorrow. What a waste of a 40MR move. Why did they add him in the first place for just one week? What a dumb move and an unnecessary loss of a good reliever with MLB experience.

    • Mookie. you aren’t allowed to say the great one made a bad move. He never makes a bad move. Just ask his puppets.

      • Hi Amazin,

Though it might not be indicative of anything other than a bad stretch during one’s learning process (which is what the minor leagues are really for) Sandy’s one big acquisition has been having a rough time of it his last few games. Could be he’s working on pitching techniques so he has to take his lumps while fine tuning his game or that the better quality hitters have now seen him a bit more.

Anybody at MMO (hint, hint) shed some light on this?

  • Jeremy hefner suck~~~~ unless you’re jesseP who said this guy was a good acquisition by sandy alderson… Somehow every move by sandy alderson have turned to crap… Yet, he’s a genius… Even the only good thing he supposedly did, which is Zack wheeler, is getting BOMBED in the minors as others have pointed out.. Hmmm, but hey… Let’s laugh at the marlins acquiring a guy they needed while the genius do nothing…

  • AFT, SOMEBODY FINALLY OPENED THEIR EYES & FOCUSED ON THE RIGHT SOLUTION
