Bay and Parnell are two completely different situations.

Bay is a Vet who had a All Star track record whose career got derailed in NY because of multiple reasons. The size of CityField, changing his approach, trying to pull to much and injuries. Unfortunately for Bay, every time he looks he might get his career back on track, he gets injured. Bay is still going to be around because he makes too much money just to release and it’ll be hard to find a team that will take him. You can hate that reality all you what and bitch and complain about it, but there is no GM in baseball that would release him right now.

Sadly for the Mets, we really need a RH power bat and because there won’t be one easily available, (especially because Sandy won’t trade young talent for a rental) giving Bay the chance to try to resurrect his career is an option.

Parnell is a completely different story. Despite his struggles as a closer, he has had plenty of success being a reliever. Parnell is young and cheep and has way to much talent to just dump because of his struggles in the closers role. If closing was easy, then closers wouldn’t be so expensive and so hard to find. Bobby’s biggest problem (in my expert opinion) is that he has had so much natural talent that he never learned to pitch.

Guys have that problem all the time. Their natural gifts are good enough to get them through High School, Collage and even the minor leagues; but when facing MLB talent, they can’t get by on talent, they have to be more.

At least Bobby has shown the desire to learn and change, don’t know if that will be enough, but it’s a positive sign.

‘step in the right direction”..Parnell has blown 5 out of 7 saves this year.He stunk as a closer last year,Jason K has stunk for 3 years.Yet they still keep getting chances.If either one of these stiffs is on the team next year than we can write off 2013 also

Ballplayers will go wherever the money is. Meyers will “love” NY. Not sure if I would want him here, not for his view but becasue of his talent at this time.

Parnell did struggle, but I liked what saw from him and I think it’s a step in the right direction.

I know, here come the “you’re crazy”, “what kinda Kool Aid” remarks…

I said that Parnell was getting burned because he wasn’t pitching inside and next thing I know, I hear that Terry had a talk with Bobby about him needing to come inside. Damn, do I feel smart sometimes.

But Bobby actually pitched inside. Now the two hits he gave up were outside pitches and he did hit a guy. But that happened because he still hasn’t established that he can come inside. Guys are still leaning out to that outside corner…that’s why he gave up those hits and hit a guy. A couple of more games of throwing inside and maybe hitting another player or two and we should start to see a big difference in his results.

I’d rather keep Spin for the OF…I’m not that impressed with him at 2nd, but it might just be too early to tell.

I don’t want Bret Meyes on my team. He is an ass who beat his wife and has some pretty bad things to say about NY, the Mets and us fans.

A much needed win today to break the losing streak and keep from falling to .500 for only the 3rd time this year.

Bigtime Props to Dickey & Wright for their games played today. Dickey managed to scatter 10 hits over 7 1/3 innings and only give up only 4 runs 3 earned. Wright then comes in and has a 2 HR 5 RBI game as the Mets went on to knock Gio out of the game after 3 1/3 innings.

Tejada, Torres, Turner & Davis as well with nice multi hit games at the plate as well.

As far as Byrdak if Wright makes a better throw or Ike handles that hop they are out of that inning not scored upon. Parnell once again struggled but with a 5 run lead he gave up the 1 run and kept it there as the Mets won.

Parnell’s splits at home vs on the road are just insane so hopefully we should see a much better Parnell the next 6 games vs the Dodgers & Nationals.

I guess we can’t trade Murphy because someone has to play third after Wright leaves town.I want to see the day when Alderson calls a presser to announce thay signed DW to a 6 year 120 mill contract.The Knicks will bring back Jeremy Lin before that happens.Btw, has anyone ever seen James Dolan or Fred Wilpon in the same room?I think they are the same person.

so if you are hot to trade murphy for him, then pagan (off last season) would have been just as good.

Why is you have to be so careful getting relievers in general but especially ones from San Diego. See Heath Bell.
Also, take a look at Ramon Ramirez for the last 3 years prior to 2012:
2009-2011: 2.82 ERA, 1.213 WHIP.
2012: 3.53, 1.402.

Gregerson
2009-2011: 3.10 ERA 1.120 WHIP (2011 WHIP 1.365)
2012: 3.32 1.156
2012 Home: .171 .253 .220 .472
2012 Away: .303 .361 .545 .907
Career Home: 1.96 ERA
Career Away: 4.49 ERA

Looks really good but then again some got upset when we traded Pagan for Ramirez, think how upset they would be if we traded Murphy for Gregerson.

WHY?!?!

Murphy may be a good, consistent hitter capable of .300 per season, but what we need in the worst way is relief help. Not only that, but despite his improvements, Murph is still a question mark defensively, and it would open the door to guys who can play everyday (Valdespin). The Mets should reconsider this opportunity to get Gregerson, especially if Street is supposedly “too pricey” (which is bullshit).

If you have to score nine runs to be “safe” for the bullpen, you don’t have a baseball team you have batting practice. I don’t feel good about this win or gloat over the great win when you consider the Nats scored five runs. Try to fix the bullpen or the season is down the tubes. In two weeks I hope we’re not sayin’ woulda, coulda, shoulda.

I would rather trade Murphy for an everyday player (Peter Bourjos) and then put Valdespin at 2nd. Maybe get Gregerson for a minor league player?

Definitely a much needed win. As for your note:

The Mets apparently discussed Luke Gregerson with the Padres, but shot down the idea of a swap of him for Daniel Murphy. Alderson has also been linked to Grant Balfour, Brett Myers, Jonathon Broxton, Francisco Rodriguez and Huston Street to name a few.

I would do that trade for Gregerson who has been one of the most consistent relievers in the last three years with a high K/9 close to 10. Under team control for 3 more years.
