Top hitters get paid at least 100 million on the open market. The Mets will not be spending that money any time soon. So when the chance to get a top hitter (although one with some blemishes) like Hanley or J. Upton, two guys under contract for a while, they would be foolish not too pounce.

The bottom line is the same as it has been for the past few years. The Wilpons are broke. There was no way they were taking on that money. Alderson had nothing to do with this stuff. He has a budget, adding Hanley would go above that budget. This non move is on the owners, not the GM.

Actually, yes. For all the defensive problems overall with this team, moving Tejada out of short for Hanley is very, very shortsighted. Maybe somewhere in the OF for Hanley, but definitely not anywhere on the left side of the infield. Price wise, it shouldn’t shock anyone. Let the record show, if history has shown us anything, the Marlins get WAY less in return in value than the person they trade. See Mike Piazza, Carlos Delgado and Miguel Cabrera as a few examples.

For that price (which was basically nothing) I wouldn’t care if he sat on the bench to be a RH pinch hitter!
