I am surprised the Fish gave him up so easily. I do think he'll bounce back and have some good years again. Maybe he does need the "change of scenery" but I still would think the Fish could have tried to get more for him....he's had a bad couple years, but back around 2009 and a couple years prior, he was one of the best players in the game. Thats several years ago now, but he's still relatively young

Though LOL remember Alex mocking and ripping on anyone who dare suggest it was possible that Wright could have a better year than Hanley this year

So focused on Hanley....
But the question isn't do you want Hanley the question is who do you want from the list of
Hanley or
Schwinden and Gorski?

We could have got him and flipped him again to get even more bullpen help.

Fair enough... But his contract is only $38 million for 3 years, not even that bad in my opinion for a guy that can rake.. And think about this, motivation can be huge for some players.. Imagine him being dumped to us, his mind set would be to stick it to the marlins, and he has a great season etc... The guy is talented enough. You take a risk on guys like that if they are not gonna "mortgage the future" IMHO.

Amazin, the talent is there, the dodgers gave up nothing for him, and with matt kemp in the lineup and the chance to compete for a playoffs spot etc may wake him up... I just have a problem with some people here too concern about him being a cancer or not giving a damn, it's not like a team that has just gone 1-11 since the ASG is giving a DAMN either

Well, that guy would then fit perfectly with this group... 1-11 After the ASG, yeah, we do have a bunch of players who do give a damn right??????? Again, not sure why the hatred for ramirez, he's a great talent, just needed to put it together... That's a guy you take a risk on, instead of the garbage good guys we have been subject to... 245 hitters from SF that you're friend told you he's gonna miss, yeah, ok, ask your buddy if he misses andres torres with pagan and melky in the OF...? F'ing idiot.. I'd take a risk on him.. but of course, i am not the GM, so watch for whoever was on the Injured list this year, will cost cheap and sucked big time is on our priority list for next offseason...
pathetic...

While you make some valid comments about the value of a star hitter being acquired as cheaply as the dodgers got him, I don't think Hanley is still that top batter. A disastrous year at the plate last year followed by another season with very mediocre numbers this year. And on top of that a very bad track record as to his attitude and effort. One can think it would change in a new place, it is pure conjecture. Whatever kept Hanley from hustling all the time doesn't go away in a big market, where if anything, there are more distractions.

I for one think Hanley will thrive in a big market. He had the same issue in Boston when they left him in the minors too long. Look there is no excuse for what he did in Miami. But I highly doubt he will pull that stuff in a market that actually cares about baseball.

And honestly, for a guy as talented as he is, young as he is, and under contract for the next few years, he was most definitely worth it. And you didn't even need to trade a top prospect to get him.

Any Met fan that says they wouldn't be immediately excited and have a renewed interest in the team if we got Hanley is lying.

Top hitters get paid at least 100 million on the open market. The Mets will not be spending that money any time soon. So when the chance to get a top hitter (although one with some blemishes) like Hanley or J. Upton, two guys under contract for a while, they would be foolish not too pounce.

The bottom line is the same as it has been for the past few years. The Wilpons are broke. There was no way they were taking on that money. Alderson had nothing to do with this stuff. He has a budget, adding Hanley would go above that budget. This non move is on the owners, not the GM.

BXMets:

"It's the perception among teammates, executives and scouts alike that Ramirez gives but not a fraction of a damn."

Yeah boo Sandy for not getting THAT guy.

Give me a break. Hanley Ramirez is one of the most talented, but lazy, and immature players in the game. A guy who had to be taken out of a game by his manager in 2010 for being blatantly lazy.

Then AGAIN in 2011 for Jack McKeon when Hanley showed up late to the clubhouse for a game. Having no respect for his team or his new manager.

This is stuff he did in Miami! Miami a city that doesn't even care it has a baseball team. You think he'd do well in New York?

You know what if Sandy Alderson had even a chance to get Hanley, put me down as 1 that says THANK YOU for not doing it.

"Canhe be any worse than Murphy is at 2nd when you factor in what everyone says about Murphy?"

Actually, yes. For all the defensive problems overall with this team, moving Tejada out of short for Hanley is very, very shortsighted. Maybe somewhere in the OF for Hanley, but definitely not anywhere on the left side of the infield. Price wise, it shouldn't shock anyone. Let the record show, if history has shown us anything, the Marlins get WAY less in return in value than the person they trade. See Mike Piazza, Carlos Delgado and Miguel Cabrera as a few examples.

For that price (which was basically nothing) I wouldn't care if he sat on the bench to be a RH pinch hitter!

Sure makes negotiating with Wright a little more interesting now doesn't it?
I mean he cost them nothing and they got a reliever to boot!

How about SS with Tejada moving to 2B so you can trade the guy everyone seems to want to trade whenever one is mention, daniel Murphy to some AL team who has more pitching?

I just don't get how people can week after week trash the guys we have as not good enough and then whenever a player comes along say we can't play him because we have someone there already!

Make up you damn minds already!

let me guess, you think the Mets should have made a move on him instead?

just curious, where do you want him to play? SS again, bumping Tejada and weakening the defense? Or 3B, with Wright being traded? Unless you would rather just hand him an OF glove and tell him to have fun out there?

Proof positive that all the Sandy Apologists are wrong.

Here are two players in Ramirez and Choate that didn't cost any top prospects or good prospects.

Just a pure salary dump.

Sandy lied about having money to spend. He lies like a F***ing snake that he is.

We needed a righthanded bat and a reliever!!!! Here they were for the taking!!!!

That smug MOFO and his Corn Fed Front Office SUCKS!

Choate has a 2.49 ERA, 0.947 WHIP, 9.6 K/9

Ramirez, 28, is a perennial all star, who was forced to switch to a foreign position and is having a poor year but still has 14 HR which would be among Mets leaders and 48 RBI and 14 SB.

SANDY ALDERSON IS A F***ING AS***LE!!!!

Whoever had money that Ramirez, Choate, Sanchez and Infante would be traded before the trading deadline and the Marlins would be 7 games below .500 July 25th got paid Bigtime.

Now it remains to be seen if they also move Josh Johnson.
