http://www.fishstripes.com/2012/7/4/3137692/miami-marlins-acquire-carlos-lee-from-houston-astros-for-matt#storyjump

"This is a puzzling move for the Marlins. It makes sense because the team is interested in improving at first base without committing long term to an option, but the projected improvement with Carlos Lee just does not seem to warrant the move. Lee is well on his decline phase and it is almost as if the Marlins were working primarily on name value. The prospects were underwhelming but still potentially useful, but the return just seems pointless even given the team's concerns at first base."

Somebody should jump on their site and say they are just being "pro Sandy" since that conclusion is practically exactly what others here have said.

Has nothing to do with Sandy Alderson. Has to do with making moves for the sake of making them.

I'd say it's a good deal for the Marlins only if one wants to talk in terms of money ball and investment. But in terms of improving the team on the field, though it might not hurt, it is most likely not going to help them, either. So it's a zero move in my own opinion.

Of course you need to step away.

Stick to baseball talk? How about you start with it? I keep seeing you brag about how much you know, but you have yet to offer any insight.

I broke down pretty well why this trade makes little sense for the Marlins and also the major differences between the Angels and the Marlins' respective slow starts, but all you can do is chuck pathetic insults at me.

No, I wouldn't because I always had confidence that Ike Davis would break out of his slump. I believed that his struggles were because of all the time he missed last year, and that it was only a matter of time before he got his timing back. And he has.

I don't feel the same way about Gaby Sanchez because I feel he isn't as talented as Ike is, and there's no explanation to why Sanchez is struggling - Davis had one - His struggles were because of all the time he missed this year in ST and all of last year - Can Sanchez say the same thing? They are two different players and it's two different situations.

Like another poster said, for the Marlins there is no downside to the trade - They gave up nothing to get Lee, and they have been getting nothing from1st base, so he can only be an upgrade for them. It's a good trade.

I think that you and others aren't looking at this objectively because you just want to pile it on against the Marlins - I don't like the Marlins either, but I'm still going to look at their moves objectively.

'Playing out of their minds'? Are you saying the Mets have no talent on this team?
3 months into the season and some are still waiting for the other shoe to drop with the Mets. It might very well happen, no one has that crystal ball. But for 3 months maybe, just maybe this 'overachieving' team as some have labeled them, is not exactly true. Maybe it's been a combination of talent and a manager attempting to get as much out of the players he's been handed.

This while reducing payroll $50 million this year as Miami has increased theirs how much?

And the Nats.....really helps to have the richest owner in MBL. But most of their success - IMO - comes from many years of last place finishes and being fortunate enough to have the high or first round draft picks when the talent was elite those years. Couple that with some good trades/acquisitions (Gio) and they're now poised to compete. But even that FO has made some bad deals - Jason Werth for instance.

Bottom line is our FO - past or present - is more or less no different than most other clubs. Even the 'great' Theo who finally brought a WS championship to Boston made his share of mistakes (trading for Gagne when he clearly knew he was on the Mitchell report). And where is he now? Chicago.

"first of all, is the season over? that’s it? Last i checked the Marlins were my pick to win the WS, just as many baseball analyst did"

Yes, because you jumped on the bandwagon. Glad you can admit to it.

"I Picked the Patriots to win the SB, does that make a loser?"

Alone? No, but it is a symptom.

"Others were ready to write the angels off after a shitt* start of the season, where are they now?
Another failure?"

Wow, you fail to see the difference in the situations. I'll try and act surprised.

Yes, the Angels' OFFENSE got off to a slow start. Their starting pitching, on the other hand, kept them in games. The Marlins starting 5 have not been as good as the Angels.

The Angels got passed their offensive woes once Mike Trout came up and started hitting. The Marlins still can't score runs, even with Stanton already hitting 19 HR.

There is one other good team in the AL West. The Angels will have a relatively easy schedule compared to some other teams they are competing with.

Do you think the NL East is going to get better or worse? The Mets scored the 4th most runs in the NL with Ike Davis being ice cold. And their starting rotation is the best in the majors right now.

The Phillies are going to get healthy in the second half. Even if they can't make up their deficit, they will be far tougher opponent.

The Nats are firing on all cylinders.

One the Dodgers get healthy, they will be fighting with the Giants for the division with 2nd place being a wild card contender. Same in the Central between St Louis and Cincinnati.

Not to mention the Angels currently hold the first AL wild card while the Marlins are 5 games out of any playoff contention with 3 teams ahead of them for the 2nd spot.

Lmao, you're so easy kid..
No… you translating what I say and fitting it into your agenda doesn’t work"
Ok, i picked the marlins to win the WS.. your agenda says soemhow i am a marlins fan... Didn't you pick the Tigers or Phillies to win the WS too? How's that working out?
I believe this trade was a bad move for the Marlins"
Respect YOUR opinion, but be humble and respects others opinion as well.. Stop thinking you know the future.. You don't know how this will work out in the end.
"And oh by the way, about Craig Kimbrel… 30GP, 23 saves, 0 Blown, 0.77 Whip, 1.50 ERA.
Say it with me Alex. Best NL Closer in baseball"
Best Closer in the NL... No arguments. Now, you're gonna NOW lie to save face and tell me and everyone reading this you did not root hardcore for the braves? to the point you disappear for like 3 days after their CHOKE JOB?
And yes I thought something was odd with the Braun testing, currently he’s hitting .309, 23 HR, 59 RBI in 76G."
The kid is talented, no argument on my part, wanna know something? I am thinking of a player who also used steroid that AFTER taking steroids put up this numbers???
315 56 154
302 35 103
286 30 100
270 35 125

Ohhh, that's right... ALEXANDER EMMANUEL RODRIGUEZ.... Idiot.... SMH

If the Mets made the exact same move in mid June, would the Marlins supporters say it was a good move?

The Mets were getting nothing out of 1B, had a weak bullpen, probably needed a #5 starter, and had issues behind the plate at the time. Pretty much EXACTLY how Miami is right now...

So would you have been happy if the Mets went out and got Lee and told Ike he's in a platoon or will just be in the minors for the rest of the year?

Gaby Sanchez isn't a superstar but he is an all star 1B and Miami just kicked him to the curb and ignored the real reasons why they are where they are.

No... you translating what I say and fitting it into your agenda doesn't work.

I believe this trade was a bad move for the Marlins because it masks what is really going on there. It just adds another player who has proven he doesn't care about winning. Their bullpen is terrible outside of Cishek and Choate, their "stars" are performing terribly, so what do they do? Add another "star" who is declining/under performing.

Solid strategy.

I love that you defend the Marlins to no end. You know you root for them on the side, so don't deny it. You come here and say because I think Kimbrel is the best NL Closer that makes me a braves fan, but you defend the Marlins on everything.

And oh by the way, about Craig Kimbrel... 30GP, 23 saves, 0 Blown, 0.77 Whip, 1.50 ERA.

Say it with me Alex. Best NL Closer in baseball. And since Mariano is hurt, Kimbrel is the best "active" closer in baseball over the last 2 years combined.

This doesn't make me a Braves fan, it means I acknowledge a great pitcher elsewhere. I don't root for him.

And again, I wanted Reyes to win the title, I think the WAY he took himself out was bush. It has nothing to do with the TITLE.

And yes I thought something was odd with the Braun testing, currently he's hitting .309, 23 HR, 59 RBI in 76G.

And you KNOW the MLB is testing him like crazy because you KNOW they want to "catch him" to save face. So maybe he was using ped's that didn't work or something because it seems like his power #s are there no?

You jumped on the wrong bandwagon and have it shoved in your face everyday. Just another failure for Alex68. One would think you’d be used to it by now"

first of all, is the season over? that's it? Last i checked the Marlins were my pick to win the WS, just as many baseball analyst did... I Picked the Patriots to win the SB, does that make a loser? yes, according to you, it did... Others were ready to write the angels off after a shitt* start of the season, where are they now?
Another failure? not sure where you going with that, I hope you're sticking to baseball, because, from what i heard, you're life story is not good...

would you have wanted the Mets to trade for Lee and replace Ike?"
No... Other than you and a few others, this site don't have many stupid, stirring the pot people like you
Carlos Lee doesn’t turn Miami around. Guys like Reyes, Hanley, LoMo, Bell are what will turn them around. It’s the fact all 4 of them have been a big disappointment"
AGREE... Is the season over? How do you know exactly what Carlos Lee will give them the rest of the season? this move COST nothing, what do they got to lose? Low Risk/High reward? Or just release the guy if stink... Plain and simple, Come on man...
I also LOVE the fact we’re on a METS site and I say negative things about MIAMI and certain people come here to DEFEND them."
Wait what???? This is coming from the same guy who last year drool over the braves, DEFENDED RYAN BRAUN TO DEATH, THRASH JOSE REYES FOR WINNING A BATTING TITLE AND LOVE CRAIG KIMBREL AND ALL THE BRAVES PROSPECTS????
ARE YOU SERIOUS?????

This post is about a trade the Marlins made.

You...you....YOU, not me you, then made it about how the Mets FO isn't making deals to make the team better while praising the Marlins...who's bullpen is probably worse when you break things down....and Alderson isn't paying Bell $24 million plus an option to suck at the easiest job in baseball.

But hey, I understand why your little feelings are hurt. You jumped on the wrong bandwagon and have it shoved in your face everyday. Just another failure for Alex68. One would think you'd be used to it by now.

Hank: Not exactly true about the taxes. I'm not 100% sure on this but...

Carlos Lee's residence is in Texas, he's already called it his primary residence since the new tax season began so he'd only have to live there in the fall/winter and he'd be fine.

The only difference is he'd pay taxes in CA more frequently as a visiting "entertainer" but if that was a deciding factor than that just brings my point even further home that he's not interested in winning, just making $.

As long as i am not you, i am fine... I know more baseball than you in my sleep, and unlike you, i don't view where a players comes from to think whether he's smart or not.. It showed me who you truly are as a person, and quite frankly the lack of brains you have.. Not sure why you even bother to post on anything i say, i just like jose reyes am from DR, therefore i must be dumb like him...
