Hi Martin,

On another article I mentioned that it was not our destiny to be either competitive, mediocre or bad – that we had some control of that in our own hands. Whether that would translate into 90 wins or 70 wins one would never know. There is no guarantee. But all teams make trades, all teams make free agent signings, all teams bring up those from the minors and all teams also release players as well. They can also chose to stand still.

Considering that the past three years this team was good enough to compete to the all-star break, moves could have been made. Whether they would have worked out, again, nobody knows. But there was a foundation in which to work with. If one chose a path of staying put, fine, that is an option. But we’ve seen how that has worked starting in 2010 (under Omar) and by doing nothing, our second halves were nowhere like the first ones.

Glad to see that more are begining to recognize why Sandy was brought in as general manager and that “vision” is just the organization’s well thought out plan to spin the word “broke” and divert attention away from the fact that there is no blueprint that guarantees success – either Omar’s way or from starting off from scratch. St. Louis and Atlanta are two examples of franchises that found the middle ground – a combination of trades, free agent signings and their minor league system.

Jordany Valdespin hits his 5th pinch hit HR in this game…and he still will be riding the pine. Shame. Keith said it the other night, the guys on the postgame said it last night, I have said it for WEEKS: He needs to start, but that’s just beating a dead horse, now isn’t it? I doubt he would’ve stumbled on a fly ball that almost would hit him in the face. Just sayin.

That’s true and also my biggest gripe and why the team failed. They tried to prove they were worthy of being contenders and in fact they were. But while they made so many believers, the one who didn’t believe in them was the architect Sandy Alderson. He pieced this team from scraps never once believing there would be no question the Mets were buyers. He’s the highest paid GM in baseball, he’s here for the money not because he wants to bring another championship to NY.

Saw Collins on post game.He needs to be fired for mercy reasons.Totally beaten down by the job and the FO’s refusal to help him shore up the team before the collapse.Very bad body language which seems to be carrying over to his players. Nice guy and a good cheerleader but a lousy manager.Make Teufel the interim for rest of year.Who knows, we might even win a game before Labor Day.

I never agree with you but I must say you are dead on here. I actually feel bad for TC that he has to run this guy out day in and day out and then act as a human shield for him. He appears to be a great guy and his teammates love him but it’s just not going to happen for him here.

SMH, so while our GM sit on his as$, does nothing, the team is on full on reverse mode, we find consolance on other teams and other players? This is amazing, we’ve lost 10 out of 11 games since the break, it was obvious we needed help, yet since the GM did nothing there are still some people here who are looking for all type of excuses in order to make the GM somehow look good..
There were no viable trade options.
Let’s not mortgage the future.
The marlins are losing and reyes is struggling.

Sandy’s apologists are running out of excuses, SNY guys are already killing him, it will not take long until everyone else joins the rally.. It’s ok for some of you to think i don’t like the man, i’ve said it from day 1, he’s an excuse maker, he’s not here to be GM but play the role of 1, he’s way past his prime etc… He’s the Worst GM in franchise history, and when DW walks out or ask for a trade due to the neglicence of this team and its front office i will see what some of you will say.
It’s really sad and pathetic how soem STILL try to use excuse for this GM

I agree they need to just show Bay the door and at least show the fan base “we may not add at the deadline, but we’re adding but subtracting Bay.”

The problem Alex is its more than $16mil

If you cut Bay today, you’re paying out over $25million to a player not on your team.

If you cut Bay he is making another $6mil and change this season, plus $16m next year PLUS a $3m buyout from a club option in 2014.

Here’s a question for somebody though

If they cut Bay and he signs at lg min with say the Pirates – “2014 option guaranteed with 600 PAs in 2013″

If he hits that 600 PA in 2013, are the Mets on the hook for another $17mil or do they only pay the $3mil buyout?

The way I understand it is, you are responsible for his contract as it’s written… so couldn’t cutting Bay potentially cost the Mets almost $40mil?

Could be worse. Could be a Marlins fan who dis not even get a season out of their WS lock team before the firesale. I wonder if Jose regrets his decision. He certainly has struggled as well in what is most likely a toxic clubhouse. Hey I guess we could trade for him if the Marlins pay about a third of that awful contact.
