Playing him is not reducing the money you owe him nor is it creating any value towards trading him.
At some point you just have to say you got as much water out of that rock as your ever going to get so move onto another rock!

I personally don’t worry about it because all that goes away as soon as he has his first slump.

Mets fans love you 1 day the next if you make any mistake or end up in a slump/struggling they jump ship and label the player a bust, he sucks etc etc. (See: Lucas Duda or last year Ruben Tejada when he had a tough stretch and was sent back to the minors)

The only player that has ducked this wrath is David Wright…he’s the only player that gets a pass…

In fact, if he didn’t obtain all those other players during the winters of 2010 and 2011, I would give Sandy and his people a pass on this one. It’s just that this now seems to be reflective of their lack of baseball insight.

I thought I was the only one who got that impression about ‘Spin too. Still remember Miledge high fiving the fans after his first home against the Giants. As a fan I thought that was great but then I understood there is a code of conduct in the clubhouse and understood why he later on got that message “know your place, rook”.

As time went on, he wouldn’t listen to instructions from anybody. I guess if he is just a hot dog but a listener at the same time, ‘Spin might not mess himself up as Lastings did.

Hairston seems to be earning himself an extention, which seems to suggest Baxter will be used as a trade chip at some point.

Is to trade for a RH Powerbat and put Duda in there as part of the trade. It will reduce somewhat the prospects needed if the right candidate could be found (But your still prob giving up something).

Have him replace Bay as the everyday LF or RF and put Spin on the other side.Kirk in Center and that should hold you in the OF till Nimmo is ready.

If you get the RH Power Bat then Duda is expendable because the new guy will make up for the Power we are asking from Duda, Swap a LH bat for a RH bat making room for Spin’s LH Bat!
Then you can play around and start Hairston vs Righties if you want.

The real issue is Bay here, no matter what he is owed I would rather pay him that and keep the starting position for a productive player than to waste the lack of production on top of his 18 Mil!

He’s not going to redeem himself in time to make a deadline trade.
And if he is worth nothing, at least nothing won’t be screwing up the batting order by rolling over into double plays!

so with the trade deadline in a couple of weeks, they needed to see if there is a glimmer of hope that he can be a viable RH platoon bat with some power. And much better to figure it out while there are still trade options (at least easy, non-waiver ones).

so consider bay as getting the first audition for the job, but it is a short leash.

and here, all Terry did was recognize that he is at best a platoon guy now. I highly odubt he is making moves just to somehow flip the proverbial bird at Sandy.
