But in september they will also be facing the same guys they are facing now in the MiLs!

Now they will be tested against true MLB players and Pitching!

Big Difference.

September is a very bad month to audition kids and see what they might do in a real MLB situation. Everyone is doing it and this is why you always see some kid who surprises and impresses in September only to see them struggle the following year when they get promoted based on what they did then. because they are doing it against other kids who get into those september games.

You also need more than a Month to judge. It takes a month for the pitchers to get a book on you in most cases and by the time they do that for a september callup the season ends.

If you have given up on this year then it makes a ton of sense to start those kids now so you can see what they do once the book comes out on them.

The only reason to play bay now is to try and right his ship.
And if you fail what did you accomplsh?
Even if you succeed, what did you really accomplish? Is he any cheaper?
is someone going to give you something for him then?
Does it guarantee he will be good next year?

Nope!
So what you might gain by playing Bay is not worth what you might gain by playing some kid and acclimating him to MLB pitching so he doesn't have to do his acclimating next year in a season that you haven't given up on yet!

The Advantage is that you gain a Roster spot to use on some kid who can get into the game and cut his teeth in the MLB this year so he doesn't have to go through the rookie struggles next year or someone else who isn't an automatic out 16 out of every 17 PA.

It's not really bloodlust at all it's as simple as a Math problem.

In regards to Baxter what I suspect happened is he finally closed a hole in his swing that they had been exploiting most of his career and they have yet to re-adjust to him to find the new hole (almost every swing has a hole someplace).
If and when they do his success will depend on how quickly he adjusts this time.

Most players who fail do so because they don't have the ability to adjust. If they make the MLB then they had some semblence of success only to get sent down when the MLB pitchers figure him out and he can't adjust to what they do.

Kirk is going through that right now! They found the hole in his swing (High Inside) and they have been exploiting it during this current slump.
He either needs to lay off those pitches or adjust his swing to be able to foul them off and cover that hole. And when he does adjust he will likely be vulnerable to some other pitch (Maybe low and outside this time!) but he will hit again until they find out where the new hole is.

It's because our GM looks at the payroll and not much else Lou. It's not in his nature to pay the best player in baseball 18 Million but now that the salary is there he is too cheap to cut him and have to pay him 18 Million to sit at home!

I might almost understand if they had signed Bay themselves...Then it would be about not admitting your mistake.

But Sandy is now exposing himself on Bay by not facing the truth and doing what needs to be done.

The difference really is that Ike HAS been a high BA OBP hitter...

His Rookie year he had an extended slump but still managed to hit .260 with a .351 OBP.
Bay hasn't since he got here and the only reason he had a high BA before was because all those fly outs you see now went over or off those short fences in Pittsburg and Boston.

Ike's issue was clear, He missed a year of seeing MLB Pitching and he probably should have started in the MiLs until he got back up to speed but because Sandy had purged this team of it's main OB guy and RBI leader last year he had to get all the power bats he could into the lineup.

Ike still isn't all he can be in his career. But his average is up in games and mostly brought down because of his awful April and May.
He has hit .264 .363 OBP in June and fell to .256 .287 OBP in July which pretty much is about the state of the entire team and it's losing since the ASG.

Add to it that Davis is our Main RBI guy (60) second only to Wright with 70.
He has 20 HRs with two months to go! That puts him around 30 HRs if he just keeps pace and I could see him getting really hot by late August and September if that missed time doesn't cause him to run out of gas...

Bay by contrast has 8 RBI and 5 of them are himself thanks to some HRs.
Sure Bay only has 122 PA but you know what but it sure isn't showing in his numbers!
He seems to be playing just as well as he did when he got here!
Which means NOT GOOD AT ALL!

Couldn't agree with you more on your first statement.
Ike might not ever be a high OBP or BA hitter but he's just starting his career. Bay's is over.
Almost feel bad for him, it's painful to watch.

The money is a sunk cost, at this point. Time to move on.

Well you tell me (an everyone else) WHY would they rush Bay back with only a few games in the Minors while the team was in the middle of a playoff race?

Make sense of that for the rest of us please...
What was Sandy's Rationale and Urgency to get back a guy hitting less than Nickeas?

What? LOL. Where did this conspiracy theory come from? Did you see that anywhere in the media or just fans speculating on that?

Love the FO, hate the FO....I can't believe for a second this to be true. Besides, they don't need Bay's help to fall out of contention. Between the first half BP and now the SP, they're making a case for that w/o Bay's lack of production.

You know I can't uinderstand why yhe Mets FO can't learn what most of us found out the hard way. "know when to cut your losses and move on and the sooner the better." It cost me a bundle to learn this. Years ago I bought my wife a Cadillac (I am a pickup guy) and what a LEMON. The tires were barely worn because it got most of its road time on the tow truck going to the dealer. When the w arranty ended at 36,000 miles and GM told me to suck the big one I dumped it at a BIG loss and moved on. It was painful and had to be done A LA JASON BAY! (By the way since that date I have never owned a car with an American nameplate and never will.)

TC comparing Bay's hitting issues to Ike's was a slap in the face to Ike and Met fans who can see the difference between an aging, not going to get better vet vs a proven power hitter in Ike who was hitting before hurting his ankle.

Tough choice between Torres and Kirk who both strikeout, Thole or Nickeas or Johnson who don't hit for power, Bay vs Hairston (against LH) cause he strikes out too much as shown in game last night, he has always been all or nothing and lately Mets need nothing and more contact.

Bottom part, after Murphy, has been a disaster, no one to pick up when Bay or Thole fail cause they stink so when David goes into slump then team lacks players on base because other teams pitch those around David different when he is hitting or slumping.

I say we have a good old fashioned butt kicking today along with an old version RA low hit, shut out complete game, why not, D Backs K a lot and despite Candiotti pitching BP for them, RA's knuckle ball is harder and breaks later.

Come on RA we need you today to go into that Canyon of a park in San Francisco on a hight note as a team. Please!

LETS GO METS!

Unfortunatly neither Torres or Kirk are hitting well enough to really push Bay out the door.

And sending Duda down was done more to salvage Bay and give him playing time than anything to do with Duda.

I mean just look at Bay's BA compared to Duda's!
Sure Duda was slumping and hitting .140 in July.
Bay was hitting .114 in July so tell me who deserves to be sent down tothe Minors to fix themselves more?

I mean at least Duda has 12 HRs compared to Bay's 5!

But Duda got sent down not Bay!

Well one of the theories on that was to help get the Mets out of contention so Sandy wouldn't have to be a buyer and change the long turtle 5 year plan he prefers to have.
